SC300 Turbo dyno/ET?
Whats up, i'm new here. I've been getting closer to getting a SC300, and wanted to know about the turbo kit from toyomoto everyone's been talking about. When reality hits, I do not want to dump 16 grand into an engine/tranny swap for a TT motor(for all that money I could just buy a TT Supra).
Anyways, I read few posts about the turbo kit from toyomoto, is it true that the kit alone will have the sc300 running around 400rwhp on stock internals? Whats the safe boost to run? If you guys have had a dyno or ran the quarter i'd like to know how you're doing w/ turbo. Thanks.

Yes, 400rwhp is very obtainable with a basic Toyomoto kit. You'll probably need a T60-1 (or similar) sized turbo to do it. You can keep stock compression and run at least 9psi with stock ECU and moderate timing.
I would venture to guess that with appropriate fuel, a stand alone ECU and a lot of dyno tuning you could hit 450rwhp on pump gas with this setup.
The stock ECU is a little prohibitive boost-wise in the midrange (It likes to advance the timing in the 4000rpm to 5000rpm range). With a standalone, you could dial timing appropriately and run at least 12-14psi on stock fuel.
A few guesses:
Toyomoto stage 1.5 kit w/o aux injectors $6000
Fuel upgrade: 440cc RC Engineering Injectors x 6 $550
ECU: AEM EMS $1250
MSD or HKS Ignition upgrade $300
Toyomoto mid pipe $200
Custom cat back exhaust $600
+ lots of tuning $$????
That should get you to 450rwhp@14psi@7000rpm on pump gas. Of course you'll have to be tuned just right to get there. Expect around 360rwhp to 380rwhp@10psi by around 5000-5500rpm.
As far as ETs last year, they were mostly upper 12s on street tires. Trap speeds in the 117 range---would guess around 425rwhp. With a good clutch, TT auto LSD and drag radials, 425rwhp is easily enough for 11s.
Race gas will give a huge difference in performance. 500+rwhp--- enough to annihilate BPU Supras, Z06s, Vipers, etc. (All depending on driveline and traction)

My insurance is what a stock SC300 would be. For me that is around $650/yr (good driver discount ). After all, its only a 6cylinder
As far as I know they can't deny your claim for adding some speed related bolt-ons. Now they could drop me, though.
....Its top speed is only around 10-20mph faster than a stock SC300, anyways. How much trouble could you get in?

i had a stage 2 turbo kit from toyomoto with lowered compression, 440cc injectors on a VPC and made 440 rwhp and 44o rwtq with that set up on pump gas daily driven..i took it to the track and had no plans of running the car..just watching a friend with his supra.....he got thrown out for running 11s with no cage so he threw the ET streets on my car and i went 12.2 then 12.0 then 11.9 on the 3rd pass ever....mph was 115....the car is a monster and i highly reccommend it ....i had that kit on the car for 50k miles...i now upgraded to a bigger turbo , haltech e6k 720 injectors...lots off fun stuff..should be a low 10sec car....we will see...but the toyomoto kit is bullet proof....complete and you wont regret buying it...Jeff

TRD Steering Wheel
Jeff
I just noticed you put in a TRD steering wheel.
Any problems with the instal/fit? Where did you place the cruise control stem or did you leave it off?
Also what do you think of a Supra steering wheel as an alternative.
TIA

about the wheel i had no problems...fit right on my 95 sc300....everyhting plugged in..and i took off my cruise control when i put on the haltech...so it was a non issue for me with the steering wheel....supra wheel would be a nice alternitive if you dont mind a toyota logo and the cruise control stuff might plug right up......if you wanted to you could proablly make the cruise control work on the TRD wheel.......i know the supra guys have made the cruise control work on the TRD wheel with very little modification,,,,look on supraforums.com for more info about it...
as for the sc300 auto tranny it will hold 350-450 rwhp pretty safely with the addition of a toyomoto shift kit.....Jeff

Sorry to hear that I know how you feel my Z will be down this year as well but back with 2835s next year. I have recently bought a SC to build for a 400rwhp daily driver if I dont get carried away with it. Hope to see you there we have 20rooms full of all the big hitters supras,vipers,300zs,rx7s ect... wish the SC was going to make it.
