I don't think it's the o2 sensors. I changed one that was throwing a code, but the CEL went away and that hesitation is gone.

I have chaged the ECU, and that did not fix the problem. Anyone have any other suggestions.

Default Sputtering Problems

I have a 95 SC400 and I am having problems with the engine sputtering. Its not the fuel filter, the car cranks right up on a cold start. I just changed the plugs and wires had the MAS checked out. I think it maybe the ignition coils. However the sputtering is not consistent it comes and it goes. Any feedback would be a great help.

Does your car rev cut at 4000 rpm too. I don't have the sputtering, it just redlines at 4000 rpm. Feels like I am floating the valves. I think the problem might be ignition related. I changed one coil though. I have to change the other. All the research I have done leads back to that or the crank sensor or ignition. I can't believe that there aren't that many members who have experienced this problem. I'm still working on it.

Ok, I have an update with no good news. Changed both ingniters, and checked the harness plugs, but is still have the rev cut at 3800-4000. I have wires and spark plugs on the way. Hope this fixes it. Anyone have additional input or a similar problem with a solution? Thanks

I havent tested that part yet, but I'm going to. I have a friend who is going to let me borrow his cluster. I'll let you know as soon as I try it out.

Just a thought to throw out there, I trust that this issue has been resolved by now seeing that the last post was April of last year. My buddy has a 2G eclipse (4G63 turbo motor). His coolant temp sensor was sending a wrong signal to the ECU putting the car in Limp mode because the computer thought the car was over heating...thus preventing him to rev past 4000rpm. So maybe there is something causing you car to be in Limp mode maybe?

I am working on my buddies SC now, anyone ever solve the issue exactly? I have thought of all these things listed but wanted to narrow it down further.

Cool sc400 4000rpm rev limit

I just bought my sc400 from an impound lot it sat for 8 months and its also doing the 4000 rev limit. The mass air flow sensor works as it should. Also while holding peddle to the floor it shifts exactly at 4000-4200 rpm every gear everytime. even in neutral. I have 210.000 miles. I would love to have my Horsepower back. car runs starts and drives great besides that. The igniters i checked and its not that. so far my ideas are as follows. spark plugs, coils, ecu, Injectors. If i solve it i will post what it was.
