Question Can a 97 SC300 auto trans work on a 98 SC300?

I am asking because i think the gears are faster on the 97. And maybe its an easier trans to build rather than the 98 trans, also have a better launch with the 97 trans.

According to some quick googling they are the same, the ratios are 1st:2.804 , 2nd:1.531 , 3rd:1 , 4th:0.705, Reverse: 2.393. The tt supra auto had a different first gear and reverse.

The transmission is an a340e, I searched for "a340e gear ratio". That will bring up tons of links to all kinds of informative sites.

As far as obdI vs obdII, the obdII sc400s in 98-00 are more powerful.

All cars were OBDII from 96 on. The difference was the VTTi.

He's right they are different, you have to research all the harnesses and see if any pins for the electronic tranny are different etc

the trans is different. it has an extra shift valve.
toyota re-did the electronic shifting for the 98+ SCs.
