Default Did it!!!

Went to Rockauto.com and had 2 new ones shipped to me...cost all of $42 with shipping from Ca to NJ. Popped them in using the instructions found in this thread and eureka! My trunk with spoiler not only stays up, but actually pops open on it's own when using the release in the car...except for when their is rain on it...the extra weight must make it just a tad too heavy. Cheap replacement that does the trick to clear up the annoyance of the trunk lid not staying up. This thread was very helpful...Thanks PerryinLA and Howiedoit...both of your diy information made the job a snap.

I've got the same question. My 97 needs new ones. are they the same as the earlier ones? Everyone stops listing at 96.

I just did this. Thanks for the writeups.

Took about 30 mins. I had no problem with removing the nut with an open wrench - I guess I was lucky. The only difficult part for me was removing the clip. I ended up just using a flat head screwdriver and just bending it out, which allowed the strut to be removed from that little nub.

I also ordered from RockAuto, and put in the discount code. However, there is no mention of the 5% discount in the invoice. They don't list the discount in the invoice. I'm wondering if it was just automated?

Also, it is important that the trunk lift stop bumpers be removed in order to extend the trunk to the full height opening, so that you could clip the strut into the ball screw. It's also easier to secure the ball screw first, and then clip the strut on. I don't see how anyone would do it any other way.

My trunk doesn't pop open all the way when I press the trunk release. When it lift it a bit, it pops up all the way on its own. Doesn't matter I guess, but now I'm wondering if I did something wrong.

Thanks again CL.com and intellexual.net for the writeups. Helped a ton.
-Brian.

Hey moogie, where in NNJ are you? I'm by Ramsey. Mine doesn't pop open on it's own anymore either, maybe it was because it was a hot day when I did the trunk support swap or the fact that the *** end of the car was lower than the front because i was parked on a slope. I guess I'll have to wait until it gets warm again in about 9 months or so...lol. It sounds like you did it right though, especially if you checked this thread before you did it.

Teke,

I'm around Old Tappan, not far from where you are. Right now, I'm actually at school in Chicago. If there's a CL.com meet during the breaks, I plan to attend.

Did this repair about two months ago. Bought mine from AC Delco, they work great and the trunk stays open when open.
