Default 1JZ + WOT = burned rubber smell from engine compartment?

Okay

Here's the situation. As of the last few months, I've been getting a nice inhalation of hot/burned rubber through the vents from the engine compartment only at WOT. During normal driving and slight acceleration, no smell.

I replaced a weak harmonic balancer this past weekend thinking it may have been on its way out but that was not the issue. The drive belt is fairly new. I am running with no cats. While the car is parked and I rev out to redline, I can't smell it as I sniff around the engine bay.

Any ideas?

Steve

Not enough tension on the serpentine belt? Your serpentine belt is slipping at WOT causing friction. Friction+rubber belt=burnt rubber smell. Did I guess right??
