Default 1JZ Side feed Injectors Installation

So far in my hunt to find a DIY that shows how to replace injectors in a 1JZ the search yeilded (for me) one result, sadly without photos. So I decided to try it myself and document what I went through.... I've done it twice already.. first time took 5 hours total. 2nd time took about 2 hours 45mins.. I have large hands so if you have small hard you are in good shape. This may work for the 2jz as well. Replaced 370cc 1jz stock injectors with JDM 2jz 440cc injectors.

I assume no responsibility for anything good or bad that happens to your car/engine by following this thread.

So let's begin.

Step 1: Disconnect negative terminal from battery and open up gas cap to relieve pressure in fuel system.

I use a 10mm socket I'm still using the stock terminal ends

Step 2: Remove throttle cable

Hold throttle at WOT (with car off - of course) and slide cable from throttle Remove 3 - 12mm bolts that attach throttle cable to intake manifold

Step 3: Remove throttle body

2 - 12mm nuts up top and 2 - 12mm bolts at the bottom. Use an extension for the bolts at the bottom. Also remove vacuum hoses from throttle body to remove easier

Step 4: Remove first set of injectors retaining bracket

This bracket has three bolts. You can use a 10mm closed ended wrench or a pliers (make sure they're channel type pliers and you have them gripped tight)

Step 5: Release injector clips

Step 6: Remove injectors

With a flat head screw driver GENTLY remove injectors from fuel rail

Step 7: Place first three injectors in and secure retaining bracket.

Place clips back in.

Before we proceed.. The rear set of injectors are a PITA to get out, simply because there are more sensors in the way.

Step 8: Remove IACV (2 - 12mm nuts) 2 coolant lines one at the top and the other at the bottom and a huge vacuum line.

Also remove the air temperature sensor.

Follow Steps 4 - 7 to remove and install injectors.. If your hands are big it will take longer so take your time.

Once the retaining bracket and clips are back in just revers the installation of the IACV, throttle body, throttle body cable, vacuum lines on throttle body and intercooler pipe, reconnect battery and your done...

P.S. Remember to ensure that the all o-rings are on the old injectors when removing.. There are o-rings at the end of the injector insure that they are not in the fuel rail when removing.

Hope this helps someone. If anyone got anything to add please chime in.

Thanks for this, Im probably going to install mine tomorrow. Did you have any issues driving after installing? Like was the car running richer, or sputtering? Or do you have a fuel controller?

A little black smoke due to a bit of fuel draining in the rail... I would suggest pulling the EFI fuse and popping the gas cap... But after letting it run a while it cleared up.. No sputtering. No fuel controller yet. I'm tryin to figure which wideband to get. I have a S-AFC that I will be installing.

The car is running a bit richer but not crazy rich. Just disconnect the battery while installing should help the ecu adjust to the injectors

Really? Just keep scouting the forums. I bought two sets already from just browsing the for sale thread here at Club Lexus and S/F... Very inexpensive IMHO...

sorry to resurrect this thread, but I need help.

I drive an IS300, and I'm trying to piece together a S/C kit.
Will the 1JZ-GTE injectors fit on my 2JZ-GE engine?
I know both are high impedance, but the 2JZ-GE is top feed, while the 1JZ-GTE are side feed.
If I take the fuel rail from the 1JZ-GTE, will that fit on my 2JZ-GE engine?

I can't seem to find an answer to this question.
