Now I was reading around and some guys had posted saying that the MUSTANG T56 has overdriven gears for 5th and 6th thus making it pretty much kaka for higher speed. BUT the Aussi guys say that you MUST use the CAMARO T56. Is it because of what has been said about the Mustang T56 to be true ? Is it possible that other Chevy type T56's have this weird 5th and 6th ?
all t56 have overdriven 5-6.

I think the mustang one they said something was cable driven. pretty much most parts on the mustangs are not as good as the ones they put on chevys and other cars.
Camaro t56 sounds good to me, and that ad says the viper one works too. to me this is great news.

*edit* the difference is that the camaro is concentric and the mustang one is not (like your friend said on page 2).
i found this info helpful to understand what the means:
http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=98387\\

note the viper has a longer input shaft than all the other T56's, but it can be swapped out with the old style (see post 2). not really sure which length we need.. lol

tremec t56 trans are also in cobras, vettes, and vipers

mustangs are cable driven but that is not nessaccerly a bad thing. cable clutch is better for the 'feel' and it might be easier to route a cable then plumb clutch line

also in for interest

so if i'm reading this correct all you would need is the adapter plate made to attach an LS1/Viper style T56 up to a JZ engine, the Camaro t56 and a custom drive shaft to make it happen.... but what about the tranny mount?

I'm new to the board, and I like this thread, very full of options for us all. However, being a T56 can be had for as low as $1800 brand new, wouldn't the cost to adapt the bell housing, custom flywheel and clutch, and a custom drive shaft put it all overboard of the $3500 for a used V160 or maybe even the $5500 brand new price of a V160? I love the T56 gearbox cause it has a lot of aftermarket products and gear sets, but for those pushing the 650HP 600 FT/LB torque I would not recommend this box. I have seen them snap under that kind of power.

you forgot to factor in the pirce of a clutch for the V160 (very expensive). But I agree on the power levels because there is a power limit where the T56 will give out and the V160 reigns supreme

Besides the fact of it being garbage, why spend 3k+ for a tranny swap that can only hold 550hp?
Get the v160.

The v160 is known to hold upwards of 1300hp stock. This really is a no brainer guys.
end thread.
