MAF replacement
I think I may have fried my MAF. I cleaned it twice ( which is not new to me ) and reset by disconnecting the battery for a bit. A shop estimated one at nearly $1200 which is insane. After getting on the net doing some research I have found alot that seem to fit the car. Any that I should opt for or avoid? What is the cheap rought to replace this thing?

please list your car information, is a sc300 or 400 and the year.
the 95 and older sc300 uses a kvf maf which is not ideal for cleaning (lots of people break it by trying to clean it) the maf cleaner specifically says not to use it on these type of mafs. it would be best to just get another one from an SC, but I believe these are also used on the mk3 supra turbo (it will be older, so i recommend the SC one).
It is possible to bring it back from the dead but its a random science, you need to make sure it gets clean on the inside and completely dry, let it dry for a whole day or so, even go at it with a hairdryer. its not like the regular mafs where you can wait 15 min and slap it back on and whatever didnt dry gets burned off by the resistor, because there is no resistor, it is a foil looking mirror piece.
96+ sc300's use a hotwire maf, the kind you can clean easily and you can replace it with another sc300 one, or just clean it again really.
sc400 not really positive but I believe it is similar to the 300 breakdown above but in both cases it may be physically larger than the sc300 one so its not a good idea to switch between the 2 unless you know what you are doing (common mod back in the day is to swap your maf for a larger one and pair that with larger injectors). alot of 7m's did this using ls400 mafs.
so in summary get a used one that works for your car it will cost you under a 100 bucks.
match the sc300/400 and stick to the right year range (odb1 or odb2).

you should be able to find another one. sc400's are very common just check online or post a wtb in the classifieds.
in post 7 you can see the size difference
