Default Harmonic Balancer: help ASAP please

My HB crapped out on me and my mechanic is telling me it's gonna be $614.00 USD plus tax. Is there an aftermarket one that's cheaper but still decent in quality? Or a place I can get an OE one for less?? Please help me out! Thanks in advance.

there is one out there that is dampened and it's a pretty penny too but it's aftermarket. I have an OBX one and no issues with it, but I been told to take it off from different people.

Theres one from AIT i believe that the supra guys use. These are costly but are dampened. From what ive heard they are great. Boost logic also has one i believe that was discontinued but try supra forums to see if anyone is selling theirs.

Well it doesn't have to be one brand or another that messes up engines but it was the non dampened ones. Being that my car is just a weekend sometimes car.. I don't put too many miles on it.

Dampened means just that. It is either filled with fluid, or uses rubber to dissipate any harmonics produced by the rotating assembly. The stocker is dampened, and any aftermarket worth its salt will be dampened as well.

the stock is dampened, the same quality in aftermarket parts will cost you alot more.
check toyota and look here for a good reading

Any aftermarket part of equal or more quality will cost more? That seems odd only because generally for certain cars certain parts are just downright very expensive, I figured that might be the case with the HB on this particular vehicle.

edit: That was a damn good read. And in case you posted it up in the hopes to make sure I get a dampened HB, I was never thinking of getting an un-dampened one, I just wasn't sure what dampened meant. I now do. Thank you.

Always use a dampened harmonic balancer, if not, expect your crank to tear the bearing to pieces.
