Default 94 SC300 MAF sensor cleaning with electronic parts cleaner

Prior to reading all the horror stories about cleaning the MAF sensor for this SC I did not know they should NOT be sprayed down. The thing is, the spray I used is not the conventional CRC MAF cleaners everyone is using. I'm using non-residue radioshack electronic parts cleaner. Has anyone here used this cleaner and had the MAF go bad? The car is not running as smooth as before. Right now it's jerky during shifts and I hear misfiring from my exhaust. If the sensor is bad, should I still be able to run the car? How much does a new MAF sensor run? Thanks.

look inside there are these tiny mirrors, they need to be dry and smudge free. You need to give it a long time to dry, you could try a q-tip or can of compressed air on it while holding it upside down, i managed to revive one i did the same thing to, and the first time i used it I didn't do it good enough and the car ran pretty funny till i dried/cleaned it better. just be careful not to break it.

i looked at the maf and i dont really see any mirrors? its just a black plastic piece? i cleaned it with a q tip from the smudge but my car is still misfiring?

if my car wasnt misfiring b4 this then it is probably the maf that went bad right?
should i try to replace the maf?

its inside the base of the black plastic piece. the plastic piece itself does nothing but split the air, it doesn't matter how clean or dirty that piece is but it does matter how clean the stuff inside those holes in the side and base are. your best bet is probably compressed air.

Sure does sound like it, see if you can borrow a maf from a friend.

i tried to clean it today using compressed air holding it upside down and it sprayed the liquid into the holes. i then held it normally and sprayed air to it.

when i started my car it turns on then shuts off automatically unless i press on the gas to keep the rpms up. i drove my car for about 15 mins.
if i dont let the rpms go down then the car stays on. but once i go to neutral then it just dies on me.

what do you guys think i should do?

electronic cleaner made the car misfire. i just want my car to be normal again!

you sprayed the stuff on it? you probably smudged up the mirror or something, the idea is to get the foil mirror looking thing on the inside as clean as possible, and you must let it dry completely, try 12 hours and even a hairdryer very lightly. see if you can use a q-tip or paper towel and clean it but by all means dont smudge it up or get oils on it (from your finger if thats even possible). i had to do it several times and eventually it worked right. all the other times i got the symptoms above. it may be easier to buy a used one.

read post 23, and remember you have to let it dry at least overnight.

thanks for the response. but is contact cleaner any different from electronic parts cleaner?
can i get contact cleaner at an autozone? the first time i sprayed electronic cleaner i only let it dry for about 30 mins. so perhaps i should try it again and let it dry for a day??

Becareful when you use compress air. If you place the nozzle too close to the MAF, condensation may build up and you're actually pumping residues into the MAF.

Contact cleaner and electronic parts cleaner are essentially the same thing. They are both residue-free cleaners.

This sucks im in the same boat also. A side note question. I have cracks/holes on my intake hose. Can those leaks cause the maf to go bad? My car was dropping rpm's and shutting off at stop lights. So I cleaned my maf and replaced the sensor and borrowed a friends intake hose thingy to drive. My car still drops revs but i have no check engine light. What is going on?
