High mileage and BHG
Hey guys I have a 95 sc300 with 203k miles. I bought it a few weeks ago and a week after I bought it the car starting misfiring. After a compression test and looking into the cylinders I realized I have a BHG. I have coolant in 2 cylinders. Now I cant decide if I should just do the HG and freshen up the head or a rebuild since I plan on boosting in a few months. I tried looking for a low mileage motor but cant find one. I need to make a decision soon so what do u guys think would be best? Will the high mileage bottom end hold boost with just the new HG and freshened head?

I want to swap a lower mileage motor but I'm having trouble finding one.
I also thought about a 1jz swap but with maintnance the harness job it might be out of my budget. If I rebuild I wold be doing all the work myself so it shouldn't cost so much.

I wouldn't waste the money on a rebuild of a 203k motor when these ge motors can be had for so cheap. For the time and money to rebuild yours, you could probably find a 150k motor for the same price.
BHG's aren't very common with these motors, even with 200k + on them.

What I spent on my block:
short block: 75.00
Machine shop:120.00 cleaned and honed only
ACL Race bearings (driftmotion): 155.00
Water pump: 100.00
Timing belt: 50.00
ARP head bolts: 120.00
rings: 70.00
Stock rods and pistons: included in the short block.
The head is just something different.. I think I spent a few pennies on it.

If I rebuild it I'd be using stock pistons n rods. I would be doing everything you did plus TT HG, and freshening up the head. And I do plan on boosting in a few months so a fresh motor would be nice. I have been looking for a lower mileage motor but havent found one. If I dont find one this week then im doing the rebuild. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Just remember the Jdm engine doesn't have egr on it if you need to worry about emissions in your area. if you are gonna delete it anyways then its convenient.
if you really care about having it though you could use that motor while you get your usdm head rebuilt. then you could put the usdm head on the jdm motor with the TT gasket and all the goodies later.

Honestly, I would save the money from buying a new motor and put it into rebuilding the one you currently have. I am boosting my bottom end with 220K on it, and I don't think its going to break. These motors are really strong. I had the whole head of my car rebuilt but the block will stay. ARP head studs and larger HG with boosting. I am running ARP studs and HKS 2.0mm HG
