Default High mileage and BHG

Hey guys I have a 95 sc300 with 203k miles. I bought it a few weeks ago and a week after I bought it the car starting misfiring. After a compression test and looking into the cylinders I realized I have a BHG. I have coolant in 2 cylinders. Now I cant decide if I should just do the HG and freshen up the head or a rebuild since I plan on boosting in a few months. I tried looking for a low mileage motor but cant find one. I need to make a decision soon so what do u guys think would be best? Will the high mileage bottom end hold boost with just the new HG and freshened head?

I want to swap a lower mileage motor but I'm having trouble finding one.
I also thought about a 1jz swap but with maintnance the harness job it might be out of my budget. If I rebuild I wold be doing all the work myself so it shouldn't cost so much.

rebuild it, drive it around like that for a while and then slap on a 1jz head when you want to boost.

I wouldn't waste the money on a rebuild of a 203k motor when these ge motors can be had for so cheap. For the time and money to rebuild yours, you could probably find a 150k motor for the same price.

BHG's aren't very common with these motors, even with 200k + on them.

depends on what parts you replace while you are there. If you are going to get some GTE pistons if you stay std or .20 over or .40 over pistons, some aftermarket rods, rings, water pump, pulleys, timing belt, bearings, and so on..
What I spent on my block:
short block: 75.00
Machine shop:120.00 cleaned and honed only
ACL Race bearings (driftmotion): 155.00
Water pump: 100.00
Timing belt: 50.00
ARP head bolts: 120.00
rings: 70.00
Stock rods and pistons: included in the short block.

The head is just something different.. I think I spent a few pennies on it.

he can, but if he wants to boost down the line he can just get his current one ready for it.

If I rebuild it I'd be using stock pistons n rods. I would be doing everything you did plus TT HG, and freshening up the head. And I do plan on boosting in a few months so a fresh motor would be nice. I have been looking for a lower mileage motor but havent found one. If I dont find one this week then im doing the rebuild. Thanks for the feedback guys.

easiest by far with least downtime will be to buy a running one and drop it in, have you called any yards. for boost do the headgasket and headstuds while its out, add all new seals and you will be done with it.

I forgot the TT gasket oops. Even if you do get a working engine you should still tare it down to see the condition of it, before you boost it and and end up with some issue you could have solved before doing all the work.

Just remember the Jdm engine doesn't have egr on it if you need to worry about emissions in your area. if you are gonna delete it anyways then its convenient.
if you really care about having it though you could use that motor while you get your usdm head rebuilt. then you could put the usdm head on the jdm motor with the TT gasket and all the goodies later.

They dont do emissions here in Miami so im good. I'll probably do the TT gasket later when I get close to boosting it.

Honestly, I would save the money from buying a new motor and put it into rebuilding the one you currently have. I am boosting my bottom end with 220K on it, and I don't think its going to break. These motors are really strong. I had the whole head of my car rebuilt but the block will stay. ARP head studs and larger HG with boosting. I am running ARP studs and HKS 2.0mm HG
