Hey guys

I got a 97 sc300 auto

Yesterday the car was fine shifting smoothly.. This morning as i was going to school it took awhile for to get out of first gear then a CEL came on. Ever since it came on its hard to get from 1st gear to 2nd..

As i was listening closely it sounds like it skipped through gears, or it felt like it. So i decide to floor it to see if anything happens. Nothing it just accelerate normally.. So i tried it again and i hit redline but i was still at 45mph it felt like i was revving in neutral while in gear.
I put it in 1st and moved to 2nd gear it was about a second delay before it shifted.

My transmission fluid is still full, but its kind of brown.. I tried resetting ECU it didn't do anything.

sounds like you need another transmission. I actually have one for a 97 sc300, its only got 69k miles and in great shape. i dont need it because i went 5 speed. let me know

Just try all of the simple things first. Change fluid and fill with some proper toyota atf. Check to see if it could be something electronic if the check engine light is on or anything like that. then reset the ecu.

I'll try flushing the tranmission when i can. I tried resetting ECU unplugged battery.. unless i am doing it wrong.

If you need a cheap tranny i have a 95 auto for sale. It drove perfectly fine im doing a gte swap. lmk if things dont work out.

Now that i think about it flushing the tranny really wont do anything.. I mean it was working perfectly fine yesterday night then this morning it just turned into crap. If the fluid is bad wouldn't it show signs of old fluid throughout the days of driving instead of crapping out at once?

If i DO need a new tranny i will either motor and 5spd swap.. OR just 5psd or buy another auto and swap it in.

Do you guys think my tranny is dead?

Just an update.

So i as i was driving to autozone to check out my CEL and it turned off and it started to shift perfectly. Nothing is wrong with it anymore how interesting!

The SCs truly are quite a mysterious car lol. Theres so many things that go on and then there are times where it "seems" the car "fixes" itself.

Im glad that your back to normal but just prepare yourself just in case. Trust me, you never know
