Default Who has the upgraded alternator?

I dropped my car off at the shop last week to have alot of mantinence done. After a week they decided to tell me that the Luxury mods 145 amp alternator I left them has the "wrong connections"(shops exact words). Does anyone have any experience changing out the alternator? How can it have the "wrong connections"? It's a positive and a negative wire right? How the hell can it not be right for the car unless it's the mounting bolts to the engine or the pulley that's in the wrong place.

I think these guys are lazy and just don't want to change out the alternator. It's been 7 days to change the timing belt, rear main seal, water pump, cam seals and trans pan gasket. I'm seriously pissed about how long it's taken.

Yeah the alternator is very easy to replace. They might be talking about the plug that is different. I know they changed the shape of it in the newer year SC's.

It's 1240 watts RMS between the 3 amps. The guys at Lextreme and Luxury mods think its the different year plug too.

Who sells a 180? Lextreme used to have a 175 but they stopped carrying them.

from my experience different years have different plugs, even if its off by 1 year on some vehicles. I learned that it was cheaper and more efficient to recoil my stock alternator for a larger amperage if i needed to upgrade.

The way i see it, $299 for luxurymod 145amp alternator vs Recoiled 180amp Factory Alternator for $100-$150.

That way i didn't have to worry about buying an additional alternator with larger AMPS and be iffy about wiring pigtails/plugs/pulley ect. Even if the ad claimed it was drop in.

I just don't see the practicality of it.

guys forgive my ignorance but what is the benefit of having higher amperage from the alternator? does it help performance in any way shape or form?

Also qwksc im sorry your still having mechanic trouble.

Is this a different mechanic than the one that gave you that ridiculous estimate or are u still with them?

If you plan on running a high watt sound system it is a good idea.

Way to resurrect a dead thread lol.
Higher amp alternator just help's keep up with the electricity demand your sound system is making.

Update, I went with a 145Amp alternator for my year model from EBay.
