1uz questions, swaps, and opinions
I have a 92 SC400, with about 176k on the 1uz. I've been weighing the costs/ future of my car lately and want some ideas and opinions. Selling it is kinda out of the question, its super clean and trying to find a SC300 in the midwest this clean will be hard. That and trying to sell it with a bad AFM, and 02 sensors is going to be difficult.
I want to keep this car as long as I can get into it, I'm concerned about support for the 1uz as far as getting new parts, I'm not too thrilled with "junk-yard-hope-they-work" parts. I've seen the prices for some basic parts start to get insane.
So, I've been considering a engine swap. I've found osakajdmmotors.com and they have a 2jzgte and a 1jzgte in stock with a/t (I plan on keeping it a/t) and all wiring.
Which motor will be the best for the long haul? I heard from a shop that I went to about the swap suggest the 2j because it was made in the US and has more support. But they want upper $3k to do the swap, this, if I under stood correctly, does not include the extended throttle cable, fuel pump, motor mounts, etc. But it will have a tuned AEM computer installed.
I dont plan on driving it alot, its mostly a weekend toy. But it would be nice to hear a blow off valve when cruising.
I seen on some older posts people doing a 1j swap and it seemed to be a little easier.
What would you suggest?
I also was considering keeping the 1uz and getting a stand alone cpu (please recommend one).
With a stand alone I could program it to ignore most of the sensors, right? (i.e. AFM, IAC, 02 snesors)
Please dont be an *** in your response, I've never messed with stand alones only a unichip pnp on my Matrix

if you want to hear a supercharger whine.

all these are good places to start.
recommend a standalone ecu - "wolfems" do a Wolf V500 Plugin Kit - Toyota Soarer V8

prefer a piggy back ecu (haltech, xede), toyota don't do 1000's hrs developing the hot cold start and running for nothing.
