I gutted mine and I notice a big loss in low-end torque. The engine did not like the hollow cats. It will throw a CEL because the secondary O2 sensor will detect cat failure. I'm fabricating a testpipe and O2 CEL eliminator right now.

I have my removed and replaced with straight pipe all the way back. I havent seen any codes either. I did keep the stock mufflers.

My car has no lower cat and I didn't notice a loss in torque. It is a bit louder, but no CEL as of yet.

The CEL depends on what year you have. 95 and above will throw the CEL light. OBDII needs all o2 sensors to read correctly, or it will throw a code.
