Default 1JZ-GTE water pump

Anyone know how I can replace my water pump on my 1J? Ive read I could use a 2J water pump from a supra but am not sure. Mine is whining like a b*tch and makes the car sound horrible. Any guidance on this subject goes very much appreciated.

yes the front portion is interchangeable with the 2JZ off a supra turbo. Is yours a hydro pump or mechanical?

also might as well do the timing belt and front crank seal while your there

get a picture of your motor's water pump and post it. Also what car did the motor originally come out of?

Basically, if your fan is directly bolted to your water pump (assuming you did not convert to electric fans) it is a mechanical pump. On the hydro pump, the fan is not directly attached, and run off a separate dohicky. If it's a hydro pump, you should have an extra reservoir labled fan fluid.

Mechanical pump

Hydro pump (i know its a 2j, but same idea)

the fan does bolt up to the water pump directly. so would a supra turbo one work?

Ya a standard USDM 2JZ-GTE one will work. That's what I have on mine. 93.5-97 will work.

Go ahead and buy all the major 90k service stuff if you're getting the pump done. You can get a new GTE water pump for ~$160 and timing belt is only like $30.

You can also use a 4cyl isuzu rodeo timing belt. I forget the years. It's like mid 90's. I got one and it's the same.
