Why is my differential leaking oil?
I do not know where exactly where the differential is leaking . I am guessing it is the passenger side drive-shaft seal but, not sure if it is or is not. The other side does not have any oil. The differential is wet on the heat sink. The passenger side drive shaft area is not wet but has dried oil residue . The seal of the differentilal has orange gasket adhesive but, can too much differential oil cause this problem? The reason I ask is because, my friend put in the differential oil and now I cannot take off the fill-in or drainage plugs. I think he overtightend it. I am afraid he may have put too much. I don't remember any leakage before he changed it out. The differential was done less than 12,000-15,000 miles ago. I will ask a mechanic to take off the plugs next week. Also, I put in 75W-90 LSD Valvoline Hypoid Gear/Differential Oil. I know the manual recommends 80W-90 but, I figured it was okay because it GL-5 also.

he may have tightened up the bolts really good. There is a proper fill level... Somone around here w/ the repair manual want to let us know what that fill level is?
May have to go to the dealership if it keeps on leaking... and you may have an excuse for an LSD!
John
EDIT: It may just take some muscles to get those bolts free... ask your friend how tight he tightend those suckers up.
