Default FIXED: Automatic trans gear indicator not working properly

okay this image sort of gives you an idea of what i think the only adjustment is on the shifter arm/shifter on the console.

problem is:
when the shifter is in gear, the indicator on the dash doesn't light up unless its in P, or L (the first and last gears). the indicator lights up, however, when the actual transmission is in between gears.

the gears for the tranny: (i know you probably know what they are, im just listing them)

P
R
N
D
2
L

Back ground info:

sc300 with a 1jzgte auto swap. the auto tranny went out so i just swapped a new one in last night, and ran into this problem.

The problem could be the inhibitor switch in the gear box.

Heard this is a common fault!

You can take it apart and clean out the contacts and see if it works!

i was talking to a head lexus tech at my local lexus dealer. he told me to put the car in park and move the shift arm all the way to front, or the left if your looking at the picture. im pretty sure something got messed up when i had to take the neutral safety switch off the old transmission. the part the turns moved and i dont think it was put back in the right position..

I take it you already tried adjusting that linkage you drew?

yup. while the car was on a lift. i talked to a mechanic at lexus and he said to put it all the way to the left (if your looking at the picture). and it should be in the right position if the car is in park. i was putting it at the center or far right though, which is probably the problem

i just took it all off again. heres what i found:

the shifter doesnt actually do anything besides move the shift arm, it has no contacts in it, meaning it does not make the lights on the cluster light up.

what does make it light is the actual neutral safety switch (picture posted by Son Gokou). i believe that when i took bolt off and small collar, i may have move it so it does not read properlly.

hopefully i can figure out how its supposed to look.

alrightt, so im still trying to figure this out. it seems to be the park/neutral position switch.

this is why:

i put the car in park, checked to make sure the light was on, then i took the shift arm off, and i got a small wrench and turned the position on click. checked the dash and the light STILL isnt on.

for some reason halfway between the click, the light will turn on. but once i get it fully into gear, the light turns off.

is there a way to adjust this part of the shifter? the part that the shift arm plugs into?
-see next picture

there is also a washer that sits behind the shift arm and bolt that has 5 fingers sticking out. as you can see in that picture there are 4 channels this washer goes onto, im not sure in which position the washer should go.

FIXED THE PROBLEM ~~!!!!

if you look at the picture above, there is only 1 mounting point. (just above the red arrow) as you can see, its not made for one particular fixed mounting spot, you can pivot the whole "brain/switch". i had mine all the way to the right, but it turns out i just had to loose the bolt, and push the whole thing the opposite direction. i re-tightened everything, and now i have my PRND2L lights as well as my reverse lights!!
