Default K & N Cone + Apexi Super AFC on my SC400!

hey guys!!

i was wondering... would i get a lot more power if i got a Apexi Super AFC and change my stock intake to a k&n cone filter for my Sc400?
how much power would i get and is it worth it?
with this i would be able to force more air into the engine right?
also where can i get a good place to buy a super afc for cheap?

Yes, getting rid of the airbox and replacing it with a MAF adapter from importtoys.com and a generic filter helps out.

S-AFCs run about $300 or so; I recommend rollhard.com since I've had dealings with them before

You have to be careful with the S-AFC though, you're leaning out your mixture to make more power; but you don't want to lean out too much.

Weapon-R makes a ECU and full intake replacement package (replaces all piping up to the throttle body instead of just a filter)
not sure how much it is; but it helps a lot and you don't need to tune anything like the AFC

Guys!!! Sorry!!! you will have a louder intake but will probably LOOSE power!!!

Don't believe me? Before spending money to get less power go to this site and READ...

http://www.users.bigpond.com/pgscott/

Scroll down to Soarer intakes (BTW a Soarer is the Japanese name for SC)

READ all 10 areas.

jbrady,

Can you explain to me where exactly does Scott say, and show in his tests, that a MAF adapter with a K&N cone filter and the stock resonator box (the peace between MAF and the throttle body) causes the loss of power? Yet, cutting the front face of the stock air box actually makes power.

Obviously I must be very confused.

I gained power when doing my intake as well

the SC3 has the same AFM and very similar intake tubing with the same silencers

Abutler696 has a Weapon-R setup and he's a good bit faster than any stock SC4 as he took me when i hit 4th gear; i can walk away from normal SC4s

so, whats this guy talking about?
am i going to lose power if i get a k&n cone?
i think you should gain more horsepower...
i think im set on buying one.. but does it really reduce pressure or what?
i had done this mod with my nissan maxima before i sold it and i thought it worked great! i got more power during my mid rpms...
so.. do you guys think a SUPER AFC would help me with the K&N cone ?

thanks

Yeah, the cone will add some power at the mid to top revs.
The huge plastic resonator doesn't hurt the airflow, and works better than some metal tubing intakes,so save your $.
Some of us just cut the front off of the factory airbox, leaving a 6"x6" ,square opening that can be ducted to the headlight opening with a U shaped piece of aluminum.Mine took about an hour to fab,and can be covered with some black film to keep it stealth looking. It was just easier than making a heatshield after getting a cone mounted in there, for me anyways.
The AFC won't hurt, but the timing is pretty retarded in these cars, and that's where the chip/piggyback upgrade really helps.
A fast cheap way to feel some hp is to remove the snorkel from the airbox, since it is shrouded by some bumper structure from the factory. It takes a couple days for the ECU to compensate for the change however.
