ok so my trans slips sometimes and it could be it has the wrong fluid in it so heres my question
flush the trans and change the filter and fill it with the right fluid and hope it works
OR
pick up another trans and slap it in
what do you guys think?

Yeah, I totally understand but quite possibly that 55 bucks could just be what your trans needs. Unless you are sure that this trans is ****ed then just go ahead and buy a new trans and the fluid.
I've bought sooo much trans fluid and to have something in/or my trans breaks within like 100 miles. That really added up buying so much royal purple gear oil. LOL
