Unhappy traction light flashes, check engine on. Car won't drive

My 98 lexus sc300 has the traction light flashing and the check engine light on. The car won't drive. Engine RPM stay at idle no matter how hard i hit the pedal. After a few turn on/off with the ignition key, the problem gets worse. Now the car starts but the engine imeidately dies. Can someone tell me what the problem is and how hard/expensive to get it fixed? Thanks in advance

Update: I went out and tried again and the engine started and stayed on. However this time when i pushed the accelerator pedal all the way down, i get some RPM increase and the car drove. To keep it going i had to push the pedal all the way down and it only ran 10-15 mile per hour. Any idea?
Thanks

Get an obd2 reader from someone and check to see what codes come up and move from there. Or buy a reader. Many parts stores check it for free but since your car isn't running, you will need to borrow or buy one. It takes 5 minutes.
