Default Cam Gear Cover Mod and 02 Sensor Question

2 questions

I have cut my cam gear cover to expose the cams.
Is this okay to leave like that for dirt and water to get inside?
Has anyone left theirs like that and been fine? If not what can I use to cover it?
I'd have a hard time cutting something out perfect to fit in there.

How many 02 sensors does a 1996 manual sc300 have?
2 or 3? I'm trying to figure it out a I was told having a 3d one could be a problem for turboing the car.

Thanks

well if I am correct the 1st and 2nd 02 sensors on our cars are in the first 3 runners and the second on the last 3 runners, the 3rd 02 sensor should be near the cat on the bottom.

so are you saying that all sc300s have 3 o2 sensors?

if so what do you guys do for turboing? how do you fake out the o2 sensor since the first cat has to leave?

thanks

obd1 cars 92-95 have 2 and 96- and 0n are obd2, if im right you should have 3, two in the exhuast mani and 1 after the 1st cat..

what the o2 sensor is, it is a resistor that sends a signal to the pcm and if that signal changes then it will usually set a check engine light, assuming that the cat is not doing its job, im pretty sure that there are "devices" out there that will plug in your harness that will send that same frequency so that the check engine light doesn't come on.. so you can go cat less on your down pipe from the turbo. if im wrong please correct me.... there are diffrent ways of getting around it, that's one.

o and the cam gear cover you can have it showing cam gears if you want but i wouldnt recomend it... dirt objects can fall in there and can get stuck in the path of the timing belt and well thats just bad news bears..

Depending on where its cut you could glue a clear plexy glass piece in.

my 92 has 2, but if your gonna nat the sucker cant you just add another o2 to the downpipe if you have three, or they sell the universals with three o2 bungs, i was gonna use the third input for a wideband....

So I guess I have 3, removing the first cat is going to cause a problem.
I need to find a solution to that. I don't know what that is.

Where can plexiglass be purchased home depot?

There are 2 types of O2 simulators out there
Electronic:

http://www.o2simulator.com/

I have this and with the accompanying heating element resistor I deleted my 3rd O2 sensor completely.

The other O2 sensor "thingy" is a more of a spacer
An example:

some are titanium, some are stainless(?) steel. you can find these on ebay as well.

ok the o2 sensor after the cat when you turbo it will not affect it the o2 sensor after the cat is a cat monitor and it just checks to make sure the cat is working properly the two o2 on top on the mani are the ones that control your fuel trim. you don't have to remove them honestly...

thats why there is normally a bung on most downpipes you may have to weld it on if you want it to work properly usually its a lost cheaper to go that route than to use a simulated o2 sensor
also majority of supras and sc owner using adjustable cams gears leave em exposed you'll be ok just be careful not to let anything drop in there.

you will only loose the first 2. what you do is you get a new one for your downpipe that screws in (cause ours on the manifold are mostly bolt type, and downpipes have bungs for the screw type), then you take your new 02 sensor and you take the signal wire and connect it to both the connectors for your old 02 sensors. so you have both wires for the old 02 sensors going to your 1 new 02 sensor. works just fine, did it for a long time.

or you could put 2 sensors into your downpipe, alot of them have 3 bungs, 2 you can use for the 02 and one for a wideband (closer to the turbo). It's redundant to have 2 stock sensors read at the same spot though, so save yourself 40 bucks and splice the signal. your ecu wont mind.
