I changed my spark plugs, and when i reassembled everything my car sounds horrible like it has an extremely aggressive cam now.

I removed each wire one by one to see if it made a change in engine sound, which every one did. That means im getting spark ok.

All of the vacuum lines seem fine, but at like 3k+ rpms a loud squeek sound is made, coming from under the throttle body.


Please help, im completely stumped and need my car for college/work

You missed a vac line somewhere.

If i knew the differences in my 2jz and your 1jz I'd be able to tell you which one's to check.

Well it was idling horrible and not making a sqeak sound the first time i changed plugs. Then i disassemble, cleaned , and reassembled everything and its making both noises.

I wonder if this is due to a plug not being seated in all the way?? you put each plug on using an old wire / boot so as to not cross thread right?

Yes i used old wires/boots. I have disassembled/reassembled twice, so its probably unlikely then not seated properly. Vacuume leak makes sense but ive never seen anything idle that bad before.

Did you check to make sure you didn't knock the maf plug loose?

MAF is plugged in. Spark plugs went in by order of legnth. I assume this is correct?


(as in the longer the wire the further toward the rear of the engine it went

to be sure check your dizzy cap it should be labeled 1through6, but if thats all good it could be a bad plug, it does happen more often then you'd think, but like every1 b4 me said double triple check vac lines, it may look like there plugged in but due to age they can break or crack ever so slightly that you wouldnt notice unless you actually look good, and then if all else fails i noticed you have a check light on, it probably wouldnt hurt to read the codes again, GL

I took the car out for a spin. Its running pretty stong, which is confusing me even more.

I will triple check all the vac hoses. ( is the a digram of all of them so i can go 1 by 1?)


And if that doesnt work i guess replace the new spark plugs?

a vacuum leak would cause a higher than normal idle and it would be steady and smooth.
I disagree with everyone here on that.

I assume the plugs were pregapped and new right? but I dont think this is the problem it sounds too off to be that at idle

I think you have a poor connection at the spark plugs or have installed the wires in the wrong locations changing the firing order. I think 2 of the wires are long enough to be switched

is the car running rich? do you smell gas from the mufflers?

The car definitely has a smell to it. Not really gas tho, idk what it smells like.

If I had a vacuum leak, wouldn't i be running lean?

Thats a very good point, that does make the most sense. How could i tell if its a poor connection though?
