Yeah man. It was very disheartening when I fired it up. Oh well, I took a risk by not cracking the tranny open and having it inspected before installing. I always knew there was a risk. The strange thing is that the original 7M-GTE flywheel and clutch kit came with the tranny and it was a stock setup. So this thing blew out on the OEM setup. A bit scary actually.

So I decided to pull apart the R154 to get an idea of the health of the gears, bearings and synchros. It's a pretty easy job assuming you follow the TSRM.

To my surprise, everything internal looked fantastic. No broken gears, thrust washer intact, synchros looked great and bearings were tight.

At this point, I'm starting to question if the vibration/clunking was in my driveline and not in the transmission. I did the test run while the car was in the air and 4th/5th gear definitely gets the wheels going. Therefore, I decided to put the tranny back together and am gonna throw it back in the car and load test it on the road. I probably should have done it the first time.

Here are some pics I snapped with the tranny open. Everything seems okay.

Default The r154 is go!!!!

So the assumption I had was right. It looks like the noise/vibration in 4th/5th was driveline noise while the car was in the air. After installing everything for a second time, I took the car out for a drive and it seems as though there is no noise in 4th and 5th. The tranny is super silent, unlike my loud *** W58.

In addition, the clutch feels fantastic; lighter pedal than my old W58 clutch and very smooth engagement, even for a 6 puck. I highly recommend the ACT HD clutch. Shifting into gear is a bit tedious. The shifter is very tight. Hopefully, it will loosen up over time.

But overall, everything is great!

I don't drive my car daily but I do plan to drive it a crap load more since I work 7 miles away now (used to be 25). The clutch is actually decent. I was very surprised and could easily daily drive it. I stayed away from ACT Xtreme for that reason.
