Ok I did the search and didn't pull up any results, 1992 SC300, my shifter assembly is loose not bad but on semi rough roads or bumps it vibrates and drives me crazy, probably a 1/2 inch or less of play in it while it's in gear or park. It's the whole assembly just not the handle, any ideas what needs to be done to fix this?

On those early model W58s you have to replace the worn bushing cups. There is also a piece that Marlin Crawler makes for these to keep them from moving around. Search up Marlin Crawler W58. If you're still getting vibes you might want to inspect the tranny's subrame mount. Those are always the cause of most vibration issues from the tranny.

On the bushing cups is it a difficult job and does the local auto parts store typically have them? I would assume it would be accessed from under the car?

No its not. Take off the shifter boot, and you will be able to see where your shifter connects to the transmission.
4 bolts connect the shifter to the transmission. Unbolt that place and you will see the bushing cups.

There is a small one on the shifter itself and a bigger one that the shifter "sits" in when it is in place. Most likely the one that it sits in is cracked or wore down. Change it out for a marlin crawler one or oem if you want.

umm, he never specified auto or manual trans, and by reading what I highlighted in red, im assuming its an auto trans...i mean, how many manual transmissions do you see with "park"

Opps sorry it is an auto so what is the fix now? lol from reading seems like the fixs were for a manual

mine auto did the same thing..drove me crazy..especially on houston streets..but the Levoc shift **** i installed made it much quieter, but its alot lighter than the stock shift ****..but i would like to know what the fsm suggests as well.

Well, It doesn't speficy exactly what to do when this occurs. What exactly is moving? You said assembly, but what is included in the assembly? Might need to tighten the linkage from under the car.

Thread revival. The problem with loose auto shifters is the bushings around the bolt it pivots on. You'll need to remove the entire console and unbolt the shifter assemble from the car. You can order the bushings from Lexus and they are cheap. I did this recently on my SC 400. It's a lot of work but worth it if your **** about rattles or loose euipment. I've replaced those same bushings on all the auto supras I've owned.
