Requesting Reviews on Electric Fans: your experience, your thoughts...
Hey guys,
I've read through pretty much all the threads on electric fans before installing mine's and I've read a lot of mixed opinions. A lot of the comments, I don't even know are valid because it was from people who heard stuff, not actually experience it. Anyways, those threads are pretty old and I am trying to get some updated reviews on electric fans.
I installed mine by hardwiring it to come on whenever I turn on my headlights (which I have on all the time), so it's running all the time. I have a 1jz-gte motor, and I am worry that the alternator might not be able to handle it for long. The day after I installed it, I drove it 3 hours to a car show and 3 hours back in 90+ degree weather. It was hot, and the car didn't overheat, so I know the fans are capable of cooling. What I really want to know is how good are they in the long run and what kind of problems people run into. Please share your thoughts...

Umm, no, I just hooked it up through the fuse box. I am going to redo all the wiring this week, it was a rush job since I needed it running quick. My clutch fan went out the night before a show and I stayed up to 3:00am to get it installed so I could drive the car to the show the next morning.

Having the electrical won't affect your alternator in any way - I don't think
Imagine have 4 subs and 2 amplifiers in your trunk that are on all the time, the electric fan spends less power than half of these - These fans also free up to 15 HP from engine
What's worrying so much about it? as long as you have it wired to the right triggers (and not headlights) you'll be perfectly set
Good luck!

But yeah, I keep pulling up old threads from places like Soarer Central where people are saying all kinds of problems with the fans but so many people do the conversion that I am just curious as to what they have to say about it to this date. Like, did a lot of people end up switching back to the clutch fan? Did people wire it a certain way? I am trying to get some responses from people whom had the electric fans for a few years and their experience with it thus far.

I might have this mod installed on my 94 Sc4
So far I got the Stall TC (with some problems - hopefully Ill be able to fix them) and straight pipes and the famous BFI- Then looking to trick my AFM signal because my AFM is drawing performance back, but keeping fuel economy good - When I dscntd it I did 10 miles a gallon but my car was very responsive and would push u back when u go from a dead stop.
Where did you get your fan from? is it hard to install ? I am willing to get my hands dirty - Any advices would be great!

http://www.lextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10545 this is a post on lextreme where i did the fan wiring on his sc400. We used the first diagram and found that the wiring issue was 2 defective fans from zirgo. We switched to the flex a lite "finger chopper" and have had no issues since then.

The biggest surge of electrons comes when the fans kick on (normally upwards of 20 Amps). Once they are on, the fans will draw significantly less current (~1/4 of the start up amount). Assuming you have no problems getting them started, you certainly should have no problems keeping them going.

This is my feedback on your topic of installing Flex-a-Lite 220.
I installed the Flex-a-Lite 220 in my SC300-97 in 2008 without a thermostat with manual control.
Electronic unit «Silich» - Samson: http://www.silich.ru/products/bu_evso automatically controls the mode of the Flex-a-Lite 220 in my SC300-97, depending on the temperature of engine 2JZGE. Electronic unit «Silich» - Samson keeps the temperature of the engine 2JZGE in the range of +90° C, with variations only in 1 - 2° C, gradually changes the rotational speed of the fan to maximum speed to minimum speed and in the modes of -30° C to +35° С the exterior temperetury. Now there are no «Thermo racing» coolant (antifreeze) is usually ranging from 6 to 12° C and «electric racing» stresses on-board network.
I am very pleased with this connection - 2 JZ GE + Flex-a-Lite 220 + «Silich» - Samson.

I"m running two advance auto "Hayden" fans for larger 6 cylinders and v8's.I have them wired into a relay and on when the car is on.Here in hot *** florida they work great.Just make sure they are spinning the correct way since some are reversible via blade not just polarity.
