I was messing around under the hood this weekend when I was cleaning stuff up and noticed a potential problem.

93 SC400
on the upper front of the block right behind the top of the belt is a small screw-in sensor of some sort with a black insulated wire coming off it. It has at some point been rubbed pretty bad, possibly cutting some of the wires inside. The sensor itself stands off the block about 1/2 inch and is about the size of a quarter. Its pretty much at the top of the valley of the V8, a little offset towards the passenger side.

I am worried that I should maybe replace this thing but frankly have no clue what to call it or what it might do. I am trying to get a decent picture of it but my camera and PC are not cooperating right now so I will add that ASAP.

It'll be either the cam sensor or the coil plug. If you can remove the radiator hose and take a picture of it, then I can tell you what it is. But if it's the cam sensor and not hooked up, then your car can't run normally.

Took a couple pics.It is the lower of the two sensors that are in the general area I circled in green in the top pic
None of the wires seem to be worn completely through but the little clip that should hold the wire against the block is no longer on it so it can swing freely against the belt if it wants to.


How concerned should I be with this?
