car stalls when i turn a/c off, pls help
yesterday i was driving around with the air on for about 1 hour. The sun starting going down so i turned the air off. As i was comming to a stop at the next light my car stalled. I'm pretty sure my rpm dropped too low cus i was basically almost stopped when it stalled. i did some research on the net and found this out.
"The air conditioning puts a heavy load on the engine when it engages. Because of the additional load, the engine idle speed has to be increased or it will stall. The way this is done is through a device called an "Idle Air Control Valve". It is basically a valve bolted to the intake manifold that regulates the engine idle speed and increases it when you turn the air conditioning on. It is not unusual for these IAC valves to get clogged with carbon deposits. When this happens the valve can't work to increase the idle and the car stalls because of the additional load of the air conditioner. You will have to get the IAC valve cleaned" this info is from a chrysler
so do you guys know wat this IAC valve looks like? Or should i turn my idle up? thanks

The valve is the black round thing in front of the intake plenum and has a rather large hose (3/4") connecting it with the main air pipe.
To turn up your idle either because your valve is caked or what, search up adjusting throttle position sensor TPS. Removing the IAC is a lot of work and you may as well just replacing it new than trying to clean it off.
To a more extreme solution, you can delete the IAC totally and use the stop screws to adjust throttle plate to your idle speed liking.

I have the same problem, and it's been >1 yr.
Solution, don't be so wishy washy. If you want AC leave it on if you don't then don't turn it on. If it stalled, pop car in neutral and fire her up again.
But then if someone else got a better solution....
I read somewhere on the forum about taking that piece out and soaking it in some detergent overnight.

Actually I found my old thread on this problem where someone posted a link to the IAC Valve. If you do decide to try and fix this, please inform me when you got it all worked out LOL.
For the mean time I'm just gonna leave my A/C either on or off. That's been working fine for me for 2 years.

ISC valve removed
My SC400 (153k miles) just died at a light. It had to be pushed from the intersection. I finally got it started and drove it home. No Codes were set.
I, too, read about taking the ISC out and take it apart for cleaning.
Here are the photos. I cannot understand why a new ISC is $650.
There are 2 bearings one on each end of the magnet/motor that may need to be replaced. The small bearing number is 608V and the large one is 6902V.
My motor passed the Ohm test. The plunger had a carbon build up.
Can you ever trust your car after being stranded?
I haven't tested the car after cleaning the ISC.
