Default High idle

1992 SC300

This car idles around 1500 RPM in park and neutral and about 1000 when you first shift into reverse or drive.

If you adjust the right side TPS counterclockwise, the idle gets even higher. if you have it cranked all the way clockwise the car will bog down when you put it in gear.

Also, the connector for it can simply slide off with a budge from a screw driver and does not click on, but it is snug still.

Could this be a bad TPS, or just in need of adjustment?

No one can help on this?

I tried screwing with the main TPS and when it is plugged in and you shift from P to R it bogs down to like 500RPM and then back to about 1100 or so. Same with R-N-D and vice-versa.

I have the same problem as well. My car idles at 1000rpm's in park then 800 rpm's in drive or reverse.

Here's an interesting tidbit coming from me, After driving for a while (especially in hot weather) my car will idle at about 1000 rpm (or slightly below it) when the gear has been set at "Park", so if you guys are going through the same thing as me, then it's definitely not your idle control valve. Hope that helps.

When are you guys observing this "high idle". Cars will idle high to warm up faster, once they get to operating temp, they will be normal.

Now assuming you guys are having the same problems as me, I may have potentionally narrowed it down to it being an ECU issue (at least for me it may be)...Here's the thing, I just replaced my battery last night with a brand new one, and guess what? That fugger is now idling at 2000 rpms! upon morning start ups instead of the original problematic 1750 rpms I had to begin with...I'd like to have my ECU reset, But my mechanics tell me there has to be a "check engine light" in order for them to reset anything...Unfortunately, there is isn't one...

Use a hose clamp (3/4") slip it over the idle air hose, tighten it to squeeze the hose until the idle rpm like what you want it to be.

Great suggestion! I'd like to try that, but the problem is, I'm no SC expert, So where exactly is that idle air hose?

Just disconnect the negative terminal for a lil bit and it will reset the ecu. Or you can disconnect the fuse for it under the fuse box in the engine bay.

I would try this first before anything else. Good Luck!

Never mind. Your cars are the SC300, doesn't use a hose but a valve right on the throttlebody. Try adjusting/troubleshooting the ISC if reseting ECU doesn't help, and I don't know if it's adjustable. I don't have the 6 cylinder one.

UPDATE!! I just discovered 2 disconnected vaccum lines, That right there may be the culprit as to why my car is idiling too high, I'll get right to it, if that doesn't work right away, I'll disconnect my battery for 5 minutes and hopefully that'll reset my ECU.

Update: Re-connected the 2 vacuum hoses and disconnected the negative battery terminal for more than 8 hours and still my car is idling at 2000rpms...It's for sure an ECU issue.
