Any input?

Thanks
I bet a bmw 6-speed would be sweet (depending on the ratios). You could just get one of those universal signal speedometers or a gps speedometer and set in in the cluster. I don't know what you would do about splicing in the factory odometer, though.

Just need a "speedo healer" to fix the speedometer issue, it should work on non toyotas transmissions to a SC gauge cluster too. BMW 6 speed is probably worth gold, T56's I know are around $1000-$1200 range.

Will that transform the BMW tranny's sensor signal to be compatible with the SC cluster? Regardless, that thing would be smooooooooth as....a lexus.

what is the part # for the pilot bearing that goes into the crankshaft? Also what kinda of clutch did u use? 3sgte? supra? or tacoma? I notice the steel flywheel on quantum-auto has been slotted and redrilled so im guessing its a 3sgte flywheel. What about the aluminum fidanza style? Is that a real custom or slotted one to as well?

Most of your assumptions are incorrect.

We use the MK3/MK4/SC3 W58 bolt pattern for clutches. The aluminum is billet non modified custom flywheel, and the steel is modified, its all on the website www.quantum-auto.com

Default So I'm still working on this...

I've gotten to play with my trans project for the first time in a while tonight. I'm still trying to fit the MKIV tail shaft on to my MKIII tranny.

I removed a bearing that I deemed to be holding the MKIV tail from sitting all the way down on the trans. Now, I'm getting caught up on the following:

This little roller bearing...

Doesn't want to fit into this hole... There's another bearing inside there so I obviously can't just file the hole out at all.

This shows the MKIII and MKIV side by side. After using just a regular tape measure, both sleeves seem to be exactly the same size. I'm going to get another measuring tool tomorrow to get a more precise measurement.

Does anyone happen to know if the sizes of the roller bearing and the interior diameter of the bearing it sits in vary between the different models of W58? Also, if there are correct technical terms that I'm not using, please let me know. I'm just making all this **** up right now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I need to get this transmission out of my garage and into my car!

Yea there is a different size bearing depending on the W58. the newer use a L28-4, the older MKIII uses a L28-3 I believe. That is a special NSK batch number for toyota and cannot be ordered that way. Anyway the part number for that bearing for a 1995 MKIV is 33350-30010. Don't ask how I know.

Are you referring to the bearing recessed into the tail shaft or the roller bearing thing on the transmission side?

If the former, dude, you're the *****. Thanks a bunch.

What's the best way to remove that part?

That number is for the race and roller bearing. They are a pair. You will have to take the roller off the shaft and remove the race from the case. Then install the new bearing. To remove the roller side a long puller is needed. Just use a flat chisel to cut off the rollers and then use the puller to remove the hard steel centre. A drift will remove the race pretty easily. To install the new roller bearing on the shaft get a pipe of diameter just larger than the shaft and tap it on till seated. For the race use a piece of wood against the race and tap the wood with a hammer.

BTW that is a toyota part number. When I ordered it there were ten in the whole of the US. 2 in Los Angeles, 2 In San Fran, 1 in Ontario California ...
. If you have trouble getting one I know a guy.

do some research... but the w58 is good for a stockish car... r154 better for modded.

The install for both transmissions is the exact same process.

The R154 is quite a bit more expensive, so weigh it like this... do you plan on just having a fun manual sc400, and not making more then 400hp? No go W58,

Do you plan on killing mkivs get a R154, but make sure you rebuild+beef up the R because with out some crucial mods the R is weaker then the W.

Or if your looking for quad digit power figures. you should talk to me about making a V160 kit, or Viper T56 kit.
