Default Diff Problem

Hi guys !

First of all please forgive me if this has been covered of it it is in the wrong section. I tried to search but I get too much junk to weed through.

I am new to the SC300 world. I found a 95 Auto with 190K on it for $1000 bucks. They thought it needed a tranny for a HUGE vibration problem that starts around 8mph and never goes away. I figured it was a driveshaft or carrier bearing problem so I purchased it. The interior leather is also SHOT.

Anyway, are all SC300's limited slip? I jack the rear of the car up and put it in drive and the diff is making a rattling sound. I think the previous owner had a leak and never had the fluid topped(residue all around it) of or probably never changed the oil. Only 1 tire is spinning.

Are diff problems unheard of? Ever hear of a fast vibration and noise coming from the diff. My coupler looks OK. I have to find a 12mm Allen today to get the rear bolts out.

Thanks in advance !!

No SC300 had a limited slip in it.

MY diff makes noises too. Your probably looking at replacing all the bearings in the diff and maybe a couple thurust washers. Changing the fluid will help a little but the noise will eventually come back.

Well, the cheapest way to get a 12mm is to go to Sears. 8 bucks later you have one.

I replaced the diff yesterday and the HUGE vibration is gone. I think I still have a problem with the driveshaft carrier bearing. I have a "wheel bearing noise" and I tried only having 1 tire at a time spinning. It would be too much of a coincidence(I Pray) if the "new" diff had the same noise.

Is there anything in the tailshaft or the trans that would make that kind of noise?
