putting a 6speed in?
hey guys I have a few questions about putting a 6speed in my car, 1st the 6speed will bolt up to the N/A motor right? I know that the 6speed wont fit without modifcation.
I know I also need a 6 speed ecu, and custom drive shaft
can I put the supra rear end on later
basicly any info you guys could give me in making this work(if it will?) until I have all the rest of the parts for the engine swap.
I asking cause my 2nd gear synco is a bit tweaked.
thanks

If you get one of these you're going to find (from what I've read) that it's geared incorrectly for your vehicle.
I'd recommend sticking with the 5spd, personally.
I'd look on www.supraforums.com and search for '6spd swap' as that's a common topic there.
hope that helps.

I'd reccomend swapping in a SupraTT auto or manual rear end with the 6-speed tranny
the main reason on getting the 6-speed is for the strength it provides... it does bolt up to the 2jz-ge; same motor as the gte, just no turbos and a different head and pistons
you don't need a custom ecu; its a manual transmission
you do need a custom driveshaft
for a 5-speed to 6-speed swap you need the slave cylinder from a supraTT and the clutch, flywheel, and the mount
you also may need to widen your tranny tunnel; i know 95 models don't have to; but the earlier SCs do

You'll also need to upgrade your brakes and suspension to compensate for the additional power.
Have fun!

I see no reason why you would need to change the ECU just for the 6-speed. If you are looking at keeping your original -GE engine, you are in for a bunch of ECU re-wiring to use the 6-speed Supra ECU anyway.
For the conversion, you will need changes in the shifter linkage to make the tranny work in the Lexus.. new clutch and throw-out bearing (the 6-speed uses the reverse clutch engagement mechanism as the N/A 5-speed), as well as having the drive-shaft custom-shortened, as you alluded to. Most everybody agrees that the gearing for the Lexus diff. is way too low to use with the 6-speed, hence the necessity to replace the entire rear-end with the matching 6-speed unit.
IF you are considering a conversion of your engine to the Supra TT, then you'd probably be better off just spending your extra money on free-flow exhaust, VPC or equivalent, etc, and pick up a used or re-built replacement 5-speed. I find my own 5-speed has all the ratios I need to smoke the tires with my 18 psi GTE engine.

thanks for the info, I've decided to wait until I have all the parts for the GTE swap.
anyone know how much work it is to get the 6-speed to fit into pre 95 SC, is having the tranny tunnel widened a big deal? cost??

bean its not that easy...ask clint...sc300tt......a reshaping of the tunnel is necessary...cutting....fabricating and welding in in a tight and sensitive area...theres wires...carpet..ect ect where you need to work..not easy and not cheap.......Jeff
