Default My Cutout idea

Hey, I have an idea to make an electronic cutout from the Maxima 3.5 TB.

It's drive by wire, so all the hard work is done. It's made out of aluminum, but so are QTP cutouts, and the 3.5 TB has a steel plate. Also, I can open and close it much faster

here's a vid of me opening and closing it at a slow speed (5v)

It opens much faster and harder at full battery power.

It's OEM, so I don't think the motor will burn out while I have it open....only on track runs anyway, so no more than 20 seconds at a time.

I also have a TB from a mercedes E-class that's a bit thinner that I can use. Works the same way.

Let me know what you think

that's a pretty good idea but the side of the throttle body that houses the motor is made out of plastic I'm pretty sure. the cover. i doubt it will hold up to the heat.

i have throttle bodies i guess i can use too. a 2005 2.5L Altima one and 2006 gs throttle body.

Seems like a good idea....but would it be able to keep the exhaust gas from passing through while its closed?

well, before installing, i'll paint it with high temp paint for an added layer of protection. If it doesn't work, I can use the mercedes TB, the gears are housed in metal.

The spring is pretty strong, and if it can keep boost inside an intake manifold, i'm pretty sure it can keep exhaust gases from flowing out. My exhaust is pretty free flowing anyway, so it's not that restrictive.

even if you use high temp paint the motor is still sitting directly on the area where heat will pass over it. The motor itself wont last too long. Every cutout i've seen the motor sits perpendicular to the piping, not directly on it.

the whole housing will get heat soaked and the ***** inside will start melting.

look in your video. the housing is aluminum. the side where the gears are is plastic. the black cover on the far side of the throttle when watching the video. high temp paint wont do anything to stop it from melting.

if it is completely metal...ie gears and all covers, then it will work.
