ok so i want to weld up my diff. so i can drift better. my friend just recently got his gs300 totaled. t-boned by the looks of it. and i was wondering if the gs300 open diff will fit in the sc400? i want to have a open diff on the side incase something goes wrong or sumtin wit the welded.

Pavel (5sp_jzz30) has a welded dif, so does Sam (DryBlaze). They work, but nothing like a TRD or Torsen.

Pavel thought that a 2IS LSD (entire unit) would fit with some minor mods, not sure if he ever did it. I dont think the GS300 has the same gear ratio. Maybe the 1GS3, my 02 GS SD is a 5spd so I'm sure the final is way different than the SC.

There are a ton of threads on this just check around.

The diffs from other cars will bolt up, but require slight changes.

The sc's come with from the factory
Auto sc300 - 4.27
Manual sc300 - 4.08
Sc400 - 3.92

1gs has a 4.08 Ratio, same as the 5spd Sc's

The 2GS Differs
GS300 has the 4.08
GS400 has the 3.76 ( IIRC)
GS430 has the 3.26

All the gs300 models have the same companion flange on the differential as the sc300/400, so they will bolt up to 100%

IF you want to swap in the diffs from the gs400/gs430, it requires you to remove and replace the companion flange from your sc diff onto the new diff.

Its about a 10 min job to change the flange ( requires a 35mm deep socket, with thin walls.)

I have a 3.26 in my 5spd, Not recommended for a non turbo car, it will feel like a dog around the town and on the highway.

it's a 2gs one. the one wit the 4 square tail lights. it's a gs300. so brownrice, it should bolt up then? gonna just have it welded and put in and call it a happy new year for me if that is the case. thank you! i'll probably buy it cuz it should be cheap. and if anything, at least i'll know i got fresh diff fluid. thanks guys!

peace out

ok well i have a 92 sc4. so right now i have the 3.92 ratio. the guy said i can buy his open diff out of his 2gs gs300 for $100. but since it has a 4.08 gear ratio, which one would be better to keep on the side if something happens?

Peace out

lower gearing in a car with a motor that makes less torque then what its meant for will cause it be slower. it wont accelerate as hard either. so a "dog around town" is a bad thing lol

how much does it cost to have a diff welded and does the welded diff make the car spin out very easily and affect vibrations or anything while driving?

getting a diff welded around max $100, can find pppl to do it for like $50. it makes the back end kick out easily. and while driving, when making turns like in parking lots, it will click, because both wheels will be spinning at the same time, not different times like a diff.

peace out

weld= insane tire wear... just know that, every turn you make your tire is going to be squealing the whole time...
