Default struggle upon accel

whenever i accelerate a little harder the engine kinda sputters and than goes right up in the rpms im wondering if that would be a spark plug problem or injector

my 92 sc400 idles real rough, and runs rough while driving at low rpms. Once I get to about 3000 rpm. it smoothes out and runs great. When the car is stopped, it almost will stall. If I accellerate hard, the engine really sounds like it is baffled and barely has power. Wondering if our problems are caused by the same thing.

What maintence items have you done within the past couple months? Have you done anything for the fuel system? You could have a possibel restrcition. If possible could you give more details?

Have not touched the fuel system other than fuel treatment, after the symptoms started. I did buy a used MAF, replaced the spark plug wires. Those had no affect. I took it to a local garage but they couldnt figure it out. (didnt charge me).

have you checked the plugs to see how they are burning? plugs can tell you a lot about your car. what year is it? mileage?

Have not pulled the plugs yet. They were changed last year with factory plugs. It is a 1992 sc400, with 160,000. My neighbor plugged in an analyzer but because of the year, that did not give us too much info.

sccd.....have you checked you accessory belt for any kind of wear, also do you hear any kind of grind or moan from the front of the motor? aka ps pump alternator ac etc? These might be going faulty and dragging you motor down. At idle in gear what are your rpm's?

no noticable wear on the belt, no strange noises. Alt changed 2 years ago, because the power steering leaked on it. PS was changed too. The motor seems to miss fire at idle which is around around 800 rpm cold, then drops below 400 when warm. Once up to 3000 rpm, everything seems normal. The condition seems to get worse as the car gets warmer. BTW thanks for your thoughts! It is too cold to pop the hood today here in Jersey.

1. I would check the plugs and see if they are soaked with fuel
2. I would check your hoses to see if the intake hoses are cracked
3. Check the timing

based on the plugs I would look at the fuel filter or the regulator. Also I would look to see if one or two were wet and also look for a leaky injector.

Does this go away at all or is always constant even after driving a little while.

This ones difficult.

It under the car, almost under the gas tank. Be prepared to be soaked in gas when you take it off

I would get MSD or denso injectors. Find out which ones you need (high/low imp)...

also just undo the fuel pressure switch and remove gas cap the night before you are going to swap the filter
