Default Speedometer quits working above 30..

Today while driving I looked down and noticed my speedometer was sitting @ 0mph when I was doing atleast 50 mph. I slowed down and once I hit 30, the needle jumped up and dropped as I slowed down. I accelerated again and it rose just fine till I hit about 30 again then it dropped to 0.

I searched for "broken speedometer" and found 1 post that said SC's dont have speedo cables, but instead have a sensor in the tranny????

If someone could maybe verify this for me or maybe point me in the right direction for what I need to do to fix this I would be greatful. Thanks!

try giving the top of your dash a wack.

Sometimes my speedometer needle sticks and if i give it quick wack it works perfectly.

My speedo acts funny around 60 mph, it'll fluctuate up and down even though i'm staying at a constant speed.

There is a speed sensor near the tail of the tranny. Yours might be giving out. Those things are pretty sensitive. They run about 200-300 dollars from the dealer. If you're an Auto, you're better off looking for a used one. If you're a manual, good luck with your search.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the dask whack thing, if no luck with that i'll be on the hunt for a used sensor. Thanks again!
