I say shouldnt cost that much, unless you want to swap out the auto to 5spd on the stock engine. I say buy a new motor, 1jz or 2jzgte then buy the tranny so they can swap everything at once thus being cheaper. But im not exactly sure myself.

Don't mean to threadjack, but how much would it be to swap for a 2JZ-GTE?

It depends are you going for a ARISTO 2jzgte? That'll be the cheapest way it'll come with a AUTO tranny unless you buy engine alone. Which i believe is around 1.8k ish then you can either buy a w58 tranny or a r154 tranny, r154 can hold more abuse and HP than w58. Total i believe its around 3-5k depending if you want to rebuild anything, intercooler etc/ Not exactly sure im just guessing. Or you can go for the 1jzgte a cheaper route. Not exactly sure on it, please if anyone wants to chime in go right ahead.

By using the search feature, you will come up with these things:

Price for a W58 Swap, and full instructions
Price for a R154 Swap, and full instrcutions
Approx. price for a V160 swap, and instructions

As well as mating all these transmissions to a GE, GTE and the V8..

I'm at work so I'm not going to type much more about it, buuutt if your doing a W58 swap you can expect 700-2000 without labor. I've seen W58s go for 300 through 800, and R154s for 800 through the low 1000's.

Best bet is to get a manual so you know what parts you need (or search) and do a price list for those parts and go from there.

If you can't swap a W58 for 1500, your in trouble.
If you can't swap a R154 for 2500, your in trouble.

That's being realistic.

W58s go for 100 all day and R154s can be had for less than 300 if you actually look.

Very true..
Labor is what gets a lot of people.

They can be up there as well, I looking around for the best deals can take some time and some of the transmissions might also need a rebuild adding to the over all cost. So if you pick up a 154 for a 100 and then spend a few hundred for a rebuild lets just say 300. You now have fresh transmission for 400. Some people will also not want to risk throwing on a transmission not knowing it's real condition.

A lot of factors on over all prices... but I also wouldn't pay 2500 for a r154 swap. That's just me... but I am in the 1k mark already with myself looking for good parts for a decent price and doing all the labor myself.

shift kit the auto to manualised and strengthen the internals

$1000 - 1500 aud

saves your clutch leg getting sore in traffic
shifts quicker than any manual (1/4 mile and just changing gears)
+++++ over the manual ++++++

If he ment best of parts, rebuilds, and labor, then yes it very well could.... But realistic? Umm no. The OP said nothing about upgrading parts, asking for labor costs, etc. So I am going by what he asked, basic swap to a 5spd. If you're patient and know how to look, do the work yourself, you could do a W58 for under 1000 easily. The R154 is possible if you consider doing every possible upgrade there is, I would know because that is what mine cost and that is what I did. My R154 setup is now roughly 3K considering I just had my custom D/S finished, and I did all the work myself. But it will hold just about anything I can throw at it.

Just so you know this isn't really the forum to be getting performance advice, try NA-T.com and SF. People have pushed the W58 to 600 (no real upgrades as far as internals either) with DD driving and have no problems and people on here think it's worthless. Pretty sure I am the only one in this thread that has succesfully completed the swap, maybe 1 of 20 on this entire forum, everyone else is all speculation and heresay or what they have read. Here is a link to the swap, step by step, if you're not a member just sign up and you will find everything you need to know. I used to have it on here until the mods deleted half my posts for fun I guess. That's CL for ya.

I sold a w58 for 150 shipped to CA from OK including Centerforce clutch and stock flywheel. Trans had 90K miles and clutch had less than 5K.

W58s don't sell well...
