Default 5-speed question

my clutch reservoir is low and was wondering what type of fluid am i supposed to fill it up with. if im confusing you, on a 5 speed its located right next to the master brake cylinder. my brother in law owns a 91 turbo supra and said that its similar to his and that it takes sealed dot 3 fluid like the ones that you would use to refill the brake fluid reservoir. it says that on the cap as well and i was initially thinking that you use the same fluid for both reservoirs, but it didnt make sense to use brake fluid to fill it up with. is my brother in law right about using the same dot 3 brake fluid used in the brake system for the clutch??

i think pretty much any dot 3 fuild will do fine. its just for the hydraulic.
as long as it doesnt eat rubber or make it brittle. your good [i dont think any dot 3 eats rubber btw] lol

When I got my 5speed swap done I had to use auto tranny fluid so I can make the 3 hr drive home. It probably wont help you much but YES, do use DOT3 or better fluids such as brake fluid.

lets keep it simple. remove the hydraulic system and replace it with an electronic solenoid activated clutch. that way you never have to fill fluid at all

...but yeah its straight DOT3 brake fluid. doesnt really matter what kind. if you really want to be all sporty and cool about it and make your clutch feel firmer get a steel braided clutch line and fill the system with RBF600 fluid

another old but really good brake fluid was the Ford heavy duty fluid. the formula, last i heard, has been changed but it is still very good bang for the buck. much better then stock and w/e you buy at autozone or equivalent. that fluid has better properties for all weather conditions and it holds up to higher heat levels before starting to deteriorate.

hmmm...interesting.....what is an electronic solenoid activated clutch? im a noob with my sc, transitioned from an old school Z. is it reliable? cost? better performance? or just for simplicity? how difficult is the swap?

it something similar to what F1 cars use. lightning fast and accurate. i have not seen one done on a street car or even formula 3 cars. i can be done, and i would do it, but i dont have the time, with school and such, to do the R&D on something no one will get a benefit from. on race cars it not even necessary either since they mostly use dog box transmissions. they have no syncroes thus they can be upshifted and downshifted without the clutch. lots of wear on the trans but its racing. it gets rebuilt all the time. the only time you use the clutch is to take off in 1st gear.

no-lift shifting FTW
