Default Sputtering!!! Help!!!

Got in my 92' SC4 this morning and the engine was hesitant and sputtering when pressing the gas...jerking and stuff. I managed to drive in to work, but I would like to know what could possibly be causing this before we go to the shop. Could this be water in the fuel, spark plugs, O2 sensor or what? Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for the help.

Pull a plug first and check what is going on.

I'd also pull out the MAF and see if it is clean... if not you can clean it very carefully.

Other things that greatly effect cold start would be the coolant temperature sensor.

Make sure you check the correct procedure for cleaning MAF. There are different types. You dont want to ruin a good one. Im not saying the MAF is your problem, just a heads up, if you decide to clean it. I would check wires, distributor first.

If your car sputters only at low speeds it could be one of your vacuum hoses leaking fuel, check the hose from the fuel control valve . Its located to the left of the Lexus badge on the left fuel rail.
