if you have a 5spd you better do this now!!!
so my shifter felt loose and i could churn butter with it for the longest time. i removed the shifter prior and inspected the situation. my shifter seat was almost non-existent and the shifter tip bushing was in bad shape.
solution:
called up Marlin Crawler. i ordered the shifter seat and the shifter tip bushing from them. most people opt out for the factory bushing which is good but still soft in a sense. this kit is made out of what looks like hard plastic. along the lines of polystyrene.
i ordered the kit for R154.
costs:
shifter seat- 10
shifter tip bushing- 6
shipping- 8 (...a killer in my opinion )
total cost: 24 bucks.
other then making my own solid steel steering rack bushings THIS IS THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK MODIFICATION I HAVE EVER DONE TO ANY CAR!!! my shifter now feels like the B&M my buddy has in his S13. so amazing.
this will only work for the w58 that has the internal shifter. meaning 92-94 sc300.
not sure on the 95+...do some of your own research.
installation is easy and self-explanatory. you can go to their site for directions and more info with pics.

I did it on my car with a new factory bushing a while ago. Sounds like the solid one might feel better but I know even the new factory W58 one was a huge improvement.

the r154 from the mk3 supra turbo and the w58 from 92-94 sc300 5spd share essentially the same shifter. the r154 shifter is a direct swap for the w58. the only difference is the angle of the stick. the mounting ball and such are same.
i bought the kit for the r154 and it went in like a glove.

I did this upgrade/maintenance in my R154 on my MK3 Supra and it made a huge difference. I didn't realize my 92 W58 was the same, so I'm calling them today to do the same upgrade. Thanks for the info!

I went ahead and ordered mine today, but it immediately defaults to the 20 bucks for shipping. Once you type in your address, it automatically recalculates it. Shipping it here to TX made it 10 for shipping, which is still a bit crazy, but I'm fine with just ordering it and being done.
Just make sure you type the address in first to see how much exactly they are going to charge you.

you can order the bushing and seat from your local toyota dealer for the W58. there are threads on the forum discussing this - and yes it does make a world of difference in your shifts. i believe the thread is called "ATTN: 5sp with loose notchy shifts" or something like that.
