transmission fluid really low, on the road 95' sc400
I'm at a small motel outside of stockton, I'm on the road driving from sacramento to LA, some idiotic reason I didnt check my tranny fluid coming up (i haven't changed trans fluids in about 10 months~) and I checked the level & it was no where near low for cold or hot indicators.
I haven't been able to find a lube/oil change station yet, but I found an autozone and got some dexton-4 atf to top it off with.. I can't tell if the original fluid is dark or same colour but doesn't look like it.
Is it safe for me to drive on this or should I drain/flush the transmission fluid right away?
Thanks

castrol import mutli vehicle ATF ..
says recommended for lexus- type T, T-II & T-IV
I'm guessing it works, I just don't want to have to go out of my way to flush my transmission.

There is no need to go over the top and change the fluid if it doesn't need to be done. Add the correct fluid that is compatible with your car. It depends a little if you have Toyota fluid or just had it flushed somewhere else. If you had another place flush the tranny with there fluid it shouldn't be a big deal cause it isn't Toyota fluid. Add the fluid that is compatible and then check the level in park with the engine running. Once it is at the correct level check and see if the fluid is dark or smells burned. Depending on the amount of mileage on the car I would or wouldn't do a flush. Reason being is that if you have a high mileage vehicle (over130k)that is beat on and tranny hasn't been serviced on a regular basis you will have issues. Saying that is if the clutch packs are worn down and you flush it that might be the only thing helping it shift right. The transmission might have shifting issues and you would have to get it rebuilt. On the good side you help the transmission last longer and then rebuild it later on. Not knowing how many miles are on it and service history the choice is yours. Take care>>>>
