Default Tune up Messed up

i did a tuneup yesterday replaceing the plugs, wires, dist. cap/ rotor. after i put everything back together my car doesnt idle right, i have no throttle response and will randomly rev at idle very low then build to 1.5 and drop. it also sounds like there is a vacuum leak under the hood but all hoses seem to be back in place.

Deffinitly a vacuum leak, trace the vacume hoses again and again untill you find it.

It could be the hose that came from the bottom of the intake. If you pull the hose from TB,it may have came off the other end.

Check the timing.

how do i check timing? when i did the distributor i made sure that the cam through the oil hole is up at TDC and the cap was at 1' aclock position. could it be the throttle position sensor? i screwed it off instead of unpluging it, is it supposed to go back a certain way? please help, im leaving to college on monday and need my car to drive from VA to OH

im triple checking over everything, cant seem to find out whats wrong. gas pedal has no effect on the engine, ill even pull on the throttle body cables and it wont rev. i did a search for throttle position sensor and think that may be the cause, is it supposed to be adjusted a certain way?

get a bottle of carb cleaner and spray it around the hoses with the engine on. when the engine idle increases then you've found your leaking hose.

Sounds like a timing issue. Remove your valve cover to make sure that both your cam gears are at TDC and adjust your distributer.

its your tps sensor

it has a very precise setting which now you will need a voltmeter to get it back within range

Umm nobody mentioned this. Did you possibly mess up the firing order of the wires? You could have the wrong wire on the distributor. This is a real possibility. Recheck the wires and see if the order is messed up. I will laugh is this is the problem.

You don't say what sort of car you have but that sounds like a disconncted airflow meter.

Matt.

i thought it was pretty straight foward, the wire number on the dist. cap goes to that number cylinder from front(1) to back(6). i hope im wrong so i can get this fixed already

I know its pretty easy ,but it can happen to anyone trust me lol. That and make sure the wires are pushed all the way down and its not arching into the side of the block. Hopefully you find a solution.
