Weird CEL problem, Please help...
hey so I just got my car back from the motor swap...and for some odd reason, my Check Engine Light comes and goes. I thought when it came on, it stayed on. When you start the car its not on. When you put it in 1st (5 speed) and start to get around 3k the CEL comes on. It stays on until you turn off the car. i dont know whats wrong with it. Please shed some light! I need to pass emitions and noone around here has a OBD 1 plug to run diagnostics so Autozone is a no go...already tried it.

For OBD1 you guys have it a little easier when you need to pull trouble codes. Get a paper clip and stick one end into port E1 and the other in TE1 in the diagnostic port (under the hood or in the car). Turn the car into the ON position and count the flashes the CEL makes. I don't know the whole procedure to read the codes but if you do a search here for "Check engine Lights OBDI" you should get something.
When you say engine swap did you swap in a 5-speed tranny into it?

i'm gonna guess knock sensors before you even read
Anyways, to read you do as he said. It's easier to go in through the hood, just pop a paper clip or a extra piece of wire you ahve laying around in the TE1 and E1 terminals. Then go turn the key to "on" without starting it. It will pause, flash a number of times, have a small pause, then flash another number of times, then have a longer pause and repeat, until POSSIBLY pausing a even longer time, at which it will start over and repeat the codes.
If your code is 52 or 55 it's knock sensor related, otherwise Search for troubleshooting codes, it's in here somewhere.
