Default MK3 1jzgte/R154

Did the MK3's supra in japan ever come with the 1jzgte/R154 motorset?
I don't think so...

I came across one, not sure if it was a modded MK3 or one that came from the factory with the 1jzgte/R154 motorset.
If it was a swapped car would the R154 in there be the same as from the Soarer (I want to rule out any chance it could be from an early chaser)

thanks

in japan the mk3 came stock with a veriaty of motors and a 1jzgte/r154 combo was one of them.

the supra r154 is a bit different then the soarer r154 with respect to shifter location. use the search button and you will find all the different routes people take when putting a non-soarer r154 in an SC.

also, the supra 1jz is front sump, soarer 1jz is rear sump.

supra came with hydraulic fan, soarer came with clutch fan.

Supras came with type 1 turbo piping, which lead to premature blowing of turbos, soarers came with the type 2, which remedied the issue.

I tried searching for it, but all the hits came back with the 7mgte R154, when I had the word supra in the search.

I'm thinking of just using the R154 from this motorset, but I'm not sure if this R154 is the same length wise as the Soarer one (when measuring from bellhousing to shifter)

I don't think anyone has used a R154 from a 1jzgte MK3
The bellhousing will bolt up to my 2jz-ge, but the rear end might not mate up...

get front half shaft from a mk3 supra 7m-gte, and it will mate up to the rear half shaft. You can get away with bending the shifter itself to make it fit.

the mk3 is a rear sump motor same as our cars. the aristo/gs and cressida/cresta/chaser are front sump JZ motors.

the fan info is right though.

the 1jzgte r154 is the same length as the soarer r154 and will bolt in. the difference is in the shifter location. on the soarer it is further back by a few inches. if you use the mk3 supra r154 the shifter will not be in the right spot and will most likely interfere with the radio when in 1,3,5 gears.

people have done custom conversion, factory part replacement(which is apparently no longer available), and/or cut reweld the shifter.

search for posts by 2jzlex and blizzy to get more detailed info.

from what I've read 2jzlex and blizzy are using R154's from regular 7mgte supras and not ones that were factory mated to a 1jzgte.

If both the 7m-gte and 1jz-gte bellhousings are the same length then I have my answer about the shifter

thanks
