Question Building an exhaust for SC V8: Things to avoid?

I am in the process of building a custom exhaust (dual exit 3") for the 1UZ-FE, and want to avoid at all costs having that bumble bee and/or rattling can syndrome... Are there any rules of thumb about building an exhaust system so it'll sound as MEAN as possible, yet be "somewhat" quiet, and "somewhat" civilized?

I have two 3"in 3"out mufflers, and the pipes leading from the engine -and including a highflow cat already built. Just a mid section splitter pipe leading and attaching to the mufflers are needed. Does it matter if it's equal or unequal piping? How about pipe sizing? What even makes that terrible ricer sound that I am trying to avoid?

Hopefully I was specific enough? Help, and thanks!

From my experience, that ricer sound comes from not having a resonator ( ie the angry bee's noise) but i dont think you will have a problem with the v8. Also the mufflers you choose will have a large affect on sound.

V8s/8 cyls make a very destinct sound thats nothing near that of a 4 or 6 cyl, or even a 10 or 12 cyl. the worst that ive heard for V8s is when they use straight pipes in the exhaust sounds all crackling. best bet would be to go for magnaflow. I have them and it sounds beautiful. little drone or crackling, and its pretty damn mean sounding.

unless you're boosted, having dual 3" pipes will actually hurt performance. Largest I would go for dual exhaust would be 2.5" which is what I'm currently running. Every time I run against a friend, when they eventually catch up, they comment on how nice it sounds.

He is most definitely BOOSTED...

Zach, make sure your fabricator uses a stainless flex tube in the mid pipe, and that he tucks everything up nice and tight...

I would agree that Magnaflows are a good way to go. You can check out my exhaust here.. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=377422

I'm using three mufflers, the center one is a tru x dual in out. I have zero to very little drone. It's actually fairly quiet, much more agressive when on the gas but still not too loud.

My camera won't switch to video mode so I can't help with sound clips, but I can tell you it sounds good! No rice here.
