Highway vibration...rear end?

Highway vibration...rear end?
The other day I made a trip up north and while going about 60 mph in 5th gear I started to notice a periodic vibration from the bottom of my seat. I could hear it inside the car and would increase in frequency as I increased the speed. I thought it was just the road at first, but even on different surfaces the vibrations were still there. I'm not sure if it's the rear end going out or something that happens in 5th gear. Tomorrow I'll try it in 4th gear just to confirm that it's not something associated with 5th gear. Any ideas?

I have the same exact cyclic vibrations right now on Auto 98 sc300, but i'm swapping it for the R154. My driveshaft wasn't loose when i took it off so i'll see if it's present when i put it back on. Do u have drilled rotors? when was the last time you balnced and aligned? also what tires do you have? How many miles on your car? BTW my car started doing this when it hit 90000 miles......

i currently have a vibration issue over 55 or 60 MPH especially and i think it may be due to some light bends from curb rash, etc. on the used wheels I bought... I got an alignment and that didn't help any so thinking it's just the wheels...

I think if the center bearing was slightly loose, you will have progressive continous vibrations: meaning, it will increase and it will be present at all times and not be cyclic...

weird, i had this vibration in my ls400 (felt like it was coming from the rear, got more intense as i kept driving.. until i came to a full stop).. and it used to happen quite frequently.. not always, started happening more often and got more intense so i realized there was a problem, took it to my mechanic, he drove it with me and it started vibrating.. hoisted me up while i was in the car so i could accelerate it.. he didn't notice anything wrong underneath the car (he originally suspected it was the axel that was grinding or loose or something).. he took it out to drive it again with me to get some more clues, but it didn't vibrate that time.. soo the mechanic couldn't figure out what the problem was.. it's been over 2 weeks since i took it to the mechanic.. it hasn't vibrated ever since then.. didn't have to pay a buck lol.. i just hope the car doesn't fall flat on the ground while im on the highway.. if you do figure out what the problem was.. be sure to let us know, i assume it's similar for the both of us

i have a vibration thats very faint, but i also have both rear wheel bearings bad, check those. but i would start with a wheel balance first

yea the wheels might be a good place to start, they're pretty heavy (bout 50 pounds a pop). What makes me to believe that it's a driveline issue is that usually wheel balance problems have an almost constant vibration whereas this vibration only occurs under special conditions and also has a pattern to it (like once every second or two). I'll bring it into the shop this week to have it checked out by a driveline specialist. Don't worry, I'll be there too and it wont cost me a dime

check tires for flat spots or out of balance, the rims if bent, then the wheel bearings, then carrier bearing if its loose, and check tranny mounts or motor mounts while your at it too

1. Wheel balance is the simplest test, be sure to ask the "road force balancing" , this will clock mount the heaviest spot of your rims with the lightest clock on your tire to minimize wheel weight. Check for bent rims
2.check suspension, look for bent / out of alignment / bad bushing.
3. if brakes is the cause, more likely it happened (vibrate/pulsate) when you brake. but its possible if its grabbing / out of center rotor installation/machining.
4.check wheel bearing, it would make all kind of noise before the vibration.

good post to give some life back to, anyone have any luck? i have the exact same issue. seems to cycle between vibration and no vibration at anything over 60. light and ANNOYING! i have had road force balance on all new tires and wheels and thought oh boy, no more vibration! there was absolutely no change in the vibration. i checked for play in the driveshaft, none. wheel bearings i would assume would at least be noisy? carrier bearing seems to have no play, but i could be wrong. going to swap to 1jz with r154 in the next month (arrives on the 5th!) so im changing the driveshaft anyway.
