SC400 Failed Emissions Very Bad.. HELP!
Hi, I live in Ontario, Canada. I just bought an SC400, brought it in for the etest and it failed hard.
1993 SC400
Oil like gold
Filter new
Was well maintained
ASM2525 TEST
HC ppm Limit-52 Reading 111 FAIL
CO% Limit-0.29 Reading 0.30 FAIL
NO ppm Limit 385 Reading 576 FAIL
No check engine lights are on or anything like that.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the welcoming.
I'm guessing its probably the cats too. You know how it is when your in this type of situation.. you hope that maybe someone will post and say they had the exact same problem and it was a quick simple fix of the.. anything besides the cats. I plan on changing the O2 sensors and egr soon. I just need it to pass for now and I think the cats would be a fix for that. I can get Magnaflows for 65 bucks a piece then just have them welded in. O2 sensors & egr would run me almost that much anyways so I figure the cats are the probably the best solution to guarantee me the pass, although I could be wrong?
To answer the question about housing prices..
For 160 you could get a nice 3 bedroom about 2 hours away from Toronto with a good sized yard maybe even a couple of acres or so. For 240 you could get a townhouse in Toronto. For 280+ you could probably find a 3 bedroom house. For something like the house in the country for 160 you would pay approx. 340 in To (good lot (maybe) no acres of course..). Condos in Toronto range from 90 (for something you wouldn't want to live in..) to 12 million on the high end, avg. is 190-230. If you go way up north you could probably buy a decent house for like 80. That's from what I've seen anyhow.
Cheers & Thanks!

you can be wrong and swap out the cats for no reason one way to check a catand this method was taught at my smog classes to use a thermal heat gun to check the temp before the cat at the cat and after the cat if there isn't much of a change cat = fried....... when it comes to emissions its a pain to be exact but there are methods to check the gun you can pick up from as cheap as 15 bucks from what i seen aslo if its good never shut the car off leave it idling as when you shut the car down the temp in the cat drops therefore makes the cat not work as well as if it was hot

thats way better than my FC did lol.. I remember CO being like 1%, and NOx being around 2000 hahaha. I waited for it to become an antique and then it doesn't get tested anymore. was 20 y/o in 2005

LOL.. drop a 20 on the ground.. I think I dropped 2200 on the ground when the girl who sold it to me, told me it had passed the etest. lol
I like the idea about testing the heat on the cats.. something else that I probably should have done..
The car is in a custom exhaust shop now. They're installing 2 Magnaflow (w/mirror finish for those who love to crawl under cars to search for bling) universal cats. The stock SC cats are really tight as in the connections on them seem to be right up to the actual cat box. Had I have taken a closer look I would have probably tried to find direct fit as the price will probably work out to be around the same given the time it will take to make the fittings for the uni's.
I'll keep you posted with the results after they're installed. With any luck it will have passed and I will be free from the man once again.
If not I'll come on here and ***** about it to make me feel better.
Cheers!

I would also change the O2 sensors also. A bad O2 sensor can make your emissions high and not always trigger the check engine light. Also try running some fuel system cleaner, use it all up, then get a fresh tank of gas before the test. Good luck!
