Default breather on the #2 cylinder cover

so everyone knows the PCV hose on the #2 cylinder head cover that connects to the air cleaner hose?
i was just wondering what if i plug/close the outlet on the air cleaner hose and put a breather on the cylinder cover?
would i expect low idle? wont be running as clean? please tell me cause i wanna know/learn.

thanks

With the breather, it should run cleaner for the car, but not the environment.

You shouldnt be running it open if you have the other side hooked up on a MAF car.

MAF=Mass Air Flow

The MAF meter measures the amount of air entering the motor so the ECU can compensate with the right amount of fuel. On your setup with the breather on the valve cover, unmetered air is entering your motor through the nipple on the intake AND through the PCV valve on the other valve cover. This will essentially confuse the ECU and your car will run erratic.

If you want to run a breather, run it on both side of the valve cover and plug the intake side of the vacuum lines.

thanks, i understand what your saying, but when you said:
"run it on both sides of the valve cover and plug the intake side of the vacuum lines"
what both sides are you talking about? is it the other side with the purple tube that comes out of the #1 valve cover?

so if i wanted to run a breather, it would be on those two outlets [the one in the pic, and the purple one on the #1 valve cover;directly across from the breather i already have] and plug the other end [where the hose wouldve connected to]

thanks! LexusFTW!

Yes.

May I ask, why do you want to run breathers? There are upsides and downsides but if your car is stock you won't see any gain in running breathers. You ideally WANT negative crankcase pressure.

well right now i put back the PCV hose, cause it is pretty pointless, i just wanted to see what happens if i did run breathers. i just installed it for the picture to give a better idea of what i was saying.
thanks for all the info though!

bump pls.

I have been running na-t for a little while now.
I have my setup like above. breather on the same side, but the other side (the purple one) is still connected to the intake manifold with a rubber tube like pictured above.

so basically its letting in unmetered air? and ive been running it like that for a long time now without noticing anything wrong really? and ive been putting boost into my crank case?

is it a one way valve? cause i know i dont want boost in there.
someone pls let me know. the car appears to be running fine.

You're letting in unmetered air. The side with the purple top is a one-way check valve so you're not boosting your crankcase.

If it's driving fine then leave it the way it is.

if its a one way valve then that is great news.

so your saying im pulling air from the breather, and that air goes to the other cover somehow, and then into my engine via the purple one?

so the ideal scenario is I should vent both of them via breathers or preferably through a catch can.

Yes, either vent them both or run both to a catch can then to the intake pipe of the turbo.
