Default what happened to my car?

Ok... i have a small or big problem with my 92 sc300 5spd. when i go to put it in gear to move forward or reverse i hear a loud THUMP or BANG! i fell its coming from the right rear.... what could it be? it only happens when some load is on the car. i jacked the car up and put it on jack stands and switched through the gears and it would only happen when i first pull off and switch gears... its definitely coming from the rear.

Could be a bad spring, rear strut mount. Trans mount, rear end mount. could be anything in the drive line.

I had a broken exhaust hanger near the heatshield doing something like that
I had that stupid problem for months

i dunno if it was a bang or thump. ima go with neurocity on checking your rear spring to see if its sitting on the mount properly

I had a similar sound and found out that my rear sub-frame was cracked and was banging against itself until it finally broke.

hey all, I'm the potential buyer of the car.

it wasnt just a noise really, the whole car jolted along with it. almost sounded like gears grinding to me, but i could be mistaken. definitely somewhere in the rear.

hopefully we can figure this one out

Your differential is blown. Pull the magnetic drain plug located on the right side of the diff and lets see what it looks like.

My brother had a 92 5spd that would bang and jolt when slowly pulling off of 1st. We would roll on it slowly til the end of the street and make a U-turn. As we make the U-turn you feel the rear end of the car just cracking and jolting every couple seconds. It is really not recommended that you drive on it if it is blown otherwise your rears might lock up. Another warning sign would be spots of oil surrounding the diff case. Goodluck.
