Was it you that said " i do ac work all the time" and was giving advice last year about converting to R134a on https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...igerant&page=2?

Now asking if the refrigerant gets charged on the low side.

Yes, you charge from the low side while compressor is running (that is with R12 and R134a). Blends or propane/isobutane mixes may call for partial charge without the compressor running then charging the rest while running.

To get the right charge, you need to have a vacuum pulled and a proper charge (measured in weight) added back along with any oil if needed. Once charged with the correct amount, verify pressures and temperatures.

I don't think it needs any oil, since it hasn't been completely empty of 'juice'. Just get 2 bottles, or that newer larger bottle.

i have always charged from the high side and i get 40 degree at idle with the car sitting. i work at a audi and VW dealer and i charge them all from the high side with no problems. i know that other car manufactures do it a different ways so i was just asking from a lexus tech point of view. i guess i will check my temp's now and then charge from the low side and see before and after.

Sorry about that, it concerned me when you were giving advice earlier, but now I see. Personally I have never worked on the manufacturers that don't have low side ports. The SC charges from low side, like most refrigeration systems.

I guess audi/vw charges through the high side because it lacks a low side port. It seems strange they do it that way.

You can charge any ac systems on either the high or low side, high side must be charged as a gas and the low side as a liquid. i would check to make sure your ac and radiator fins is not full of debree, and i also would check your fluid coupler for proper engaugment make sure it is going into lockup
